The following special events are taking place in May and early June.
Central texas air show
Come to the largest air show in
Central Texas to be held at the Temple
Airport! There will be a night show on
Friday, May 2, and day shows on Saturday
and Sunday, May 3-4. Aircraft will pro-
vide non-stop entertainment for spectators

derby day for R.o.c.k.
The Austin Influential Group is partner-
ing with tenOak to benefit the Ride On
Center for Kids (R.O.C.K.) with a Derby
Day on Saturday, May 3 from 2-5:30 p.m.
Experience the excitement of the 140th
Kentucky Derby at the tenOak Burbon
House in downtown Austin. Arrive in
full derby regalia—fashionable hats and
seersucker suits are encouraged! Prizes
will be awarded for the “Best Derby Hat”
and “Best Dressed Gentleman.” Admis-
sion is $30 for a single ticket, and $50 for

Annunciation Banquet
Annunciation Maternity Home will host
its 12th annual banquet on Thurdsay,
May 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the St. Rita Cen-
ter of St. Helen Catholic Church, 2700
E. University Ave. The dinner will also
have a silent and live auction and a

Hill Country Author Series
The Friends of the Georgetown Library’s
Hill Country Author Series will feature
writer Dr. James Magnuson on Thursday,
May 8 at 3 p.m. at the library. Doors open
at 2:30 p.m. Dr. Magnuson is the author of
Famous Writers I Have Known
, his ninth
novel, and will be the second speaker of
2014 in the Author Series. Tickets for the
event are $13 in advance and $15 at the
door, and may be purchased at the Sec-
ond Hand Prose bookstore on the second
floor of the library or by contacting Ricki

Art & Author Book Faire
On Saturday, May 10, from 1-5 p.m.,
Members of the Sun City Visual Arts,
Photography, and the Mountain Dul-
cimer clubs will combine with AcTAG
and Central Texas Authors at the Art
& Author Book Faire at the Georgetown
Public Library. Photos and artwork will
stress the theme of “Look in the Book.”
Author and publishing guru Rhiannon
Frater will be the speaker. The event is

hill country Vet-A-Palooza
Roots Bistro in Georgetown is hosting
the inaugural Texas Hill Country Vet-
A-Palooza benefiting Team Racing for
Veterans (R4V), a nonprofit focusing on
rehabilitation for our veterans through
exercise, sports and adaptive sports. The
event will feature bands, food, a silent
auction and more! Come out from noon to
7 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, at Roots Bistro
on the Square. Tickets are $25 per person,
and free admission for children! Tickets
may be purchased at Roots Bistro (call

FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
The Georgetown Festival of the Arts, cel-
ebrating its 10th anniversary of bringing
extraordinary international musicians to
Georgetown, presents
A Spanish Fiesta
(With A French Twist)
. The festival hosts
events to be held in several Georgetown
venues May 29 to June 1, and will feature
the music of eminent Spanish composers
Isaac Albèniz, Enrique Granados and
Manuel de Falla. The festival also will
include the works of several French com-
posers and their colorful interpretations

Senior University
Senior University begins its one-week
Summer Session on Monday, June 9.
Classes will be held each morning, Mon-
day through Friday, in Olin Hall on
Southwestern University campus. Reg-
istration is in progress.
A free lecture by SouthwesternUniversity
President Dr. Edward Burger will be held
on Sunday, June 8 at 3 p.m. in the Social
Center Ballroom. This event is open to
