It’s your January wake-up call
By John Rutan, Sun City Personal Trainer
This is the year you are going to get into shape—sounds easy, but it’s
tough to do. The good news is that you live in Sun City Texas and you
are already a dues-paying member of two world-class Fitness Centers.
Each of our Fitness Centers is staffed with Cooper Certified Personal
Trainers, the best Personal Training program in the country.
Why should you meet with a Personal Trainer? Because if you are
really committed to getting in shape this year, a Personal Trainer can get you off to
the right start. People who are new to exercise, or have not used some of the latest
equipment, are going to do better when they have professional help. If you plan to do
strength training (and you should!), you will need a trainer to show you the correct
form so that you will not injure yourself. Continued weekly training sessions will keep
you motivated and ensure your workouts are appropriate for your age and fitness level.
Don’t wait until you are ready; get started today! Call the Cowan Creek Fitness
Center 512-948-7780 or the Texas Drive Fitness Center at 512-948-7750 to schedule
your Personal Training session.
Remember, “If you don’t take care of yourself, you can‘t take care of anyone else.”
To keep everything from being from
one end of the linen closet to the other,
I purchased plastic rectangular shaped
containers with lids. Then, I use a black
marker and write on the end of the con-
tainer what’s in it. In one container,
I’ll have over the counter pills (aspirin,
Tylenol, etc.), in another container I’ll
have hair products for the granddaughter
(
clips, head bands, etc.), and in one more
I’ll have tooth products (floss, plastic
toothpicks, new brushes, toothpaste). Ev-
erything is organized and you can stack
them in the linen closet. Works for me!

Store things close to where they are used.
Also, learn about Feng Shui and apply
it in your home. It really improves the
comfort level.
Carol Bowen, N41
Recycle empty tissue boxes. Put one of
the boxes on the dryer to hold dryer lint.
Put another in the car as a mini-trash
bin. When the boxes full, toss the whole
thing and pull out another empty box.
Also, hang a shoe bag—one of those with
lots of shoe pockets—on the inside of the
pantry door. Use it to hold light stuff that
normally gets lost in the back of the pan-
try: plastic cutlery, Crystal Lite contain-
ers, spices, etc. Take zip-lock bags out of
their box and put them in a pocket, then
they will be easier to retrieve.
Sandra Hense, N26
I alphabetize all my condiments on the
door shelves inmy refrigerator. That way, I
know pickles are farther over than catsup
and that mustard is beside pickles, etc.
This is very handy when one is in a hurry,
raiding the refrigerator on the sly, or when
the refrigerator light does not work.
Carol Belmont, N25
Make checklists in Microsoft Word, they
can be edited easily. For example, make
checklists for packing and preparing for
a trip. After each trip, I print a fresh set
of checklists and put them in my travel
supplies box. That way if an opportu-
nity to travel comes up, I’m ready to start
gathering the items on the checklists.
Also, make grocery shopping lists. I have
prepared a Microsoft Word shopping list
of the items I frequently purchase at the
grocery store. I put a blank list on the
kitchen counter each week and, as I dis-
cover that I need more of whatever item,
I circle it and write next to it the number
I want to buy.
Marsha Forys, N35
Take the big step and throw things
away. I know it hurts, but that guitar
that hasn’t worked for years isn’t going
to work again—throw it away. Do spring
cleaning in the fall, winter and summer,
too. Throw it away or give it away.
