Central Texas residents with a 512 area
code will soon have to adapt to a new
way to dial phone numbers. The Public
Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) will
be introducing a new area code, 737, to
the current 512 territory starting July 1,
2013.
This addition is known as an area
code overlay.
Current 512 phone numbers
will not
change
once the overlay comes into
effect; only new telephone lines or ser-
vices will be given either a 737 or 512
area code when the activation occurs
in July.
However, as of December 1, 2012, the
PUCT has requested that Central Texas
residents now begin their 512 area code
calls by dialing the area code along with
the seven digit telephone number.
This
10-
digit dialing systemwill become
mandatory as of June 1, 2013.
During this transitional/educational pro-
cess through June, should you forget to
dial all 10 digits, your call will still be
completed; however, after June 1, calls
dialed without an area code will not be
completed.
Once this 10-digit dialing system be-
comes mandatory, other phone systems
must change as well, including life safety
systems, fax machines, Internet dial-up
numbers, and alarm and security sys-
tems.
The PUCT forecasts 512 area code phone
numbers to last until late 2013. The 737
area code overlay will ensure a continu-
ous supply of phone numbers for the cur-
rent 512 territory.

vice provider or visit the PUCT website

If a coyote(s) is seen in an area, avoid contact at all costs and
move slowly out of the area. To be safe, follow these general
rules in regard to coyotes:
1.
Maintain pets on a leash at all times, especially when
on walks on nature trails; do not use extension leashes
that are easily dropped or jerked out of your hand and
allow your dog to get too far ahead of you.
2.
If you encounter a coyote while walking a small dog,
pick up and carry the dog to prevent it from attacking
to protect its owner.
3.
Do not leave pet food dishes outdoors, as the coyote will
eat any food left in the dishes and will come to regard
your yard as a source of food.
4.
Ensure garage doors remain closed and trash containers
covered when put out into the street for pickup.
5.
Use noise making and other scaring devices when coy-
otes are seen.
