Wildfire! Tornado! Disaster!
Neighbors
helping neighbors—that’s what Neighborhood
Emergency Coordinators (NECs) do! In 34
Neighborhoods in Sun City, volunteers have
agreed to be trained and to serve as liaisons
with the Emergency Management Commit-
tee
(
EMC)
.
NECs work with the NRO or each Neighborhood
Representative to help prepare for various emergency situations
both before and after an event. NECs can supply information
on how to Shelter in Place, assemble a Grab n’ Go Bag, and
provide the locations of Sun City evacuation centers for people
and their pets. They can also provide general emergency pre-
paredness and procedures, including the Sun City Emergency
Plan and its guidelines.
NECs attempt to identify neighbors who may have special
needs or need additional assistance in an emergency. Neighbors
should notify their NEC if assistance might be needed. NECs
encourage and assist
residents to complete and update the
EMC’s Emergency Medical Information Form, accompanying
sticker, and the Emergency Contacts Form. A current Medical
Information Form can be invaluable in providing EMS re-
sponders with your current medical condition and medications.
NECs work with Neighborhood Reps or Block Captains to
establish a call tree as a means to contact residents if there is
an emergency in their neighborhood, especially if other means
of communication (Channel 79 or Internet) are unavailable.
As part of their training, the EMC encourages all NECs to
attend the Sun City CPR/AED/First Aid classes. This training
is provided at no cost to the NECs. Many NECs volunteer to as-
sist the EMC at Sun City evacuation centers and the First Aid
Station should the emergency not involve their neighborhood.
The NECs first responsibility is to their family and neighbors.
Contact your Neighborhood Rep to find out who your NEC is,
or if you are in one of the 20 Neighborhoods without a NEC and
are interested in serving in that position. For more informa-
tion, contact EMC members Sharon Dunning at sedunning@
