Be Safe When Walking
or Running in Sun City

imgIf you are one of the many walkers or runners in Sun City Texas, we urge you to practice some basic safety tips. Often people forget that they are especially hard to see on the street in the evening, at night and in the twilight of early morning. Distracted drivers and limited visibility due to weather, landscaping, parked cars or other traffic are other factors that put you at risk.

We encourage you to run or walk on one of our many off-street trails whenever possible. However, if you need to run or walk in the street consider these safety tips:

  • Wear bright colors or reflective clothing. A simple white t-shirt might save your life!
  • Consider purchasing a runner’s safety light. You can buy lighted or flashing armbands, shoe lights or lights that clip onto your belt. A head lamp will ensure that you avoid obstacles.
  • NEVER assume that a car sees you when crossing the street.
  • Make sure that you can be seen both coming and going.
  • DON’T wear headphones. You must be able to hear a car approach.
  • Run or walk on the left side of the road (or against traffic) so that you see approaching vehicles.

Let’s be safe!

Street Paving on Whispering Wind Beginning August 7

imgThe City’s contractor will begin milling and paving operations on Whispering Wind on August 7. This includes the portion of Whispering Wind from Sun City Blvd to just south of Dan Moody by Enchantment Drive. Please expect minor delays along Whispering Wind from Sun City Blvd to Dan Moody.

During this timeframe, homeowners are asked not to park on the roadway so that crews can complete this milling and paving in a timely manner. The contractor’s crews will also hand out door hangers to those residents impacted by this construction 48 hours prior to starting.

Schedule (subject to change based on weather and mechanical issues)
Aug 7-8:   Milling existing asphalt along curbs in both directions
Aug 9-11: Paving
Aug 12:    Final clean up/touch up as needed
