Golf Cart/Pedestrian
Trail Update

Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director, [email protected]

imgTo enhance the safety of the golf cart/ pedestrian path that connects Neighborhood 59 to Sun City Blvd., we are adding five (5) speed bumps on the pathway at the blind corners. We will place signage at both ends of the trail alerting all users of the presence of these speed bumps and would like to remind everyone to drive slowly and safely when they use this cut-through. Also, bicycle riders are required to walk their bikes on this trail. Please help us to keep this area safe for all users.

Flying the Stars
and Stripes

Written by Chuck Graham

The U. S. Congress has specified the rules pertaining to display and care of the United States Flag in U.S. Codes Title 4 and 36. These rules, commonly referred as “The Flag Code”, are basically:

  • Always fly the U.S. Flag with respect and in the place of honor. The U.S. Flag is never dipped in honor of anyone or anything. No other flag is displayed above the U.S. Flag – in accordance with international protocol.
  • When displayed with other flags, the U.S. Flag is either on the right in a line of flags, in the center if in front of a line of flags, or in a position above other flags.
  • When displayed in a hall or auditorium, the U.S. Flag is to the right of the podium.
  • The Flag is displayed only during daylight unless properly lighted, and is not displayed in inclement weather unless designed for weather.
  • Never allow the Flag to touch the ground.

Resident Age
Verification Survey

Federal law requires us to periodically update our records and confirm that at least 80% of the households in Sun City Texas have at least one resident 55 years of age or over. This is necessary to maintain our "55 or over" exemption to the Federal Fair Housing Act, otherwise it would be illegal for Sun City to restrict occupancy primarily to older residents.

To help us satisfy our legal duty to update our records, one member of each household is asked to log into the website and take the one-question survey. You will be prompted to take the survey the first time you log into the website between February 13 and March 31. After one person in the household has answered the survey question to certify that a member of their household is 55 or older, no other members of the household will need to take the survey.

Dog Park Rules

Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director, [email protected]

The Community Association (CA) has been receiving complaints of dog owners not following the rules of the Dog Park and I would like to take this opportunity to remind the community of the rules and the need for everyone to follow the rules. One of the main concerns shared with the CA is that some owners are not abiding by the weight requirements. Large dogs, those over 30 pounds, need to stay on the large dog side at all times. Conversely, small dogs, those 30 pounds and under, need to stay on the small dog side at all times.

I realize some dogs are very social and polite and their owners feel their dog should be provided a variance to the weight rules, but once we start allowing variances, well, you get the point.
We will be updating the signage to ensure the weight requirements are clearly posted along with all of the park rules. Click Here for the current rules that are posted at the park.

The CA will be enforcing these rules and those violating the rules of the Dog Park will be subject to sanctions including the loss of the use of the park. Please help us to keep this area safe and enjoyable for all.

Check your profile and preferences
by March 31!

Even if you have been listed in the printed directory in the past, it is critical that each resident log in to the website to check and update their profile in the online directory by March 31! You can also visit Member Services to make updates to your profile information. Please see below for important information regarding your profile and directory listing:

  • If you wish to include a phone number in the resident listings by street address, please enter a phone number in the Home Phone field in your online profile.
  • If your spouse or housemate has selected to “hide” their profile in the printed directory through their Preferences, the entire household will be hidden. Please coordinate with your spouse.
  • Birthdays, home state, emergency contact information and memberships will not be printed in the directory.
  • Certain fields can only be updated by the Member Services Office (Name, Address, Birthday, Chartered Club Memberships).
  • Renters with a lease expiration date on or before August 31, 2016 will not be printed in the directory. Please contact Member Services if you have questions about a lease expiration date on file or to notify of an extension of your lease.

Note: Each person in a household has his/her own separate profile.
Log in to www.sctexas.org using your member ID (XXXXX-XXX) and password. When you arrive on the Resident Home Page click on your Profile and your Preferences in the left navigation to review your information and edit if necessary. If you need assistance updating your information please contact Member Services.

COPs Survey Results

Submitted by Larry Swim, Chairman, COPs

In January, the Citizen’s on Patrol program (COPs) surveyed residents to better understand our impact in the community and where we can improve our operations. Overall, the survey results were positive revealing that 81% of respondents are familiar with the COPs duties and how they are performed and 89% of residents agree that the COPs program contributes to the security and tranquility of Sun City Texas.

The following questions and suggestions were mentioned most often in the open-ended feedback and we’ve included responses to those topics below:

Communication: New articles about COPs activities and duties will be included in Sun Rays and the CA Communicator.

Car identification: The COPs vehicles will be more boldly identified later this spring.

First Aid/CPR/AED: Training is offered to COPs volunteers at no cost and we plan to work toward having as many volunteers as possible trained by the end of the year. We are also investigating the requirements for having an AED in each vehicle.

Resources and referrals: COPs volunteers make referrals to the Georgetown Police Department’s dispatcher using 911 or the non-emergency number as appropriate. Current plans are to support GPD’s Silver Shields and Take Me Home Programs and to work with the Georgetown Emergency Manager in support of future initiatives. COPs will continue to educate volunteers about these and other resources.

Extended hours: Our current hours of operation are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. We plan to explore the possibility of extended hours of operation, however, implementation will be dependent upon volunteer availability and appropriate approvals from the CA/EMC.
