Closure for All
Tennis Courts

Saturday, October 17
All day: 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Submitted by Catrin Dubois, Landscape Superintendent, [email protected]

All Tennis Courts will be closed for tree maintenance this Saturday. This includes the native tree line along Texas Drive. For your safety, we are closing all tennis courts for the day.

Please do not approach workers who are using power tools. The professional team has detailed instructions and is highly trained in proper arbor care practices. They will be performing trimming, hauling and clean up, leaving the courts neatly blown of all debris. Thank you for your patience.

Firewise offers
Home Ignition Zone
Evaluator Training

Submitted by the Firewise Group

Become a Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) Evaluator. Sun City residents request that their homes be evaluated for exterior fire hazards. Evaluators only inspect the exterior of a home and then they make recommendations to the home owner about any potential fire hazards that are noticed. The results are strictly between the homeowner and the Evaluator.

An Evaluator training will be held on Thursday, October 29, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The morning training session will be in the classroom learning about the Firewise program, what is evaluated and why it is important. The second half of the day gets you out in the field for training.

Register by October 23

To register online, click below. Fill out the form and be sure to check the box "Home Ignition Zone Evaluation Work Group." Then send the request.

You can also complete a Volunteer Form at either Monitors Desk in the Social Center or Cowan Creek Amenity Center.

Hope to see you October 29!

img   Learn What You Can Do

    Thursday, November 5
    9 a.m. •  SCB

Sponsored by NRO, Committees, and Clubs

The life style we have all come to enjoy is made possible because hundreds of residents share their time and talents to make things happen. And with the expansion and changing age and health of our population, there is a constant need for more volunteers like you.

What can you do? Start by attending this event to learn about the many opportunities available to you. Then choose the one which best fits your interests and skills and become involved.

Agenda:

  • Comments from present and past residents who have been active participants in their Neighborhood, committees, clubs or even the CA Board.
  • Introduction to the many opportunities and levels of participation available to you today.
  • Something guaranteed to make you laugh.
  • Round table discussion to answer specific questions about opportunities, qualifications and how to get started.
  • And of course there will be refreshments and door prizes.

To make sure we have materials available for you, please RSVP by November 2nd. Log in to the Sun City Website and go to Resident Home. Then click the following: Clubs and Neighborhoods; then NRO; then “I am Here, What can I Do?” and finally “Register Here.”

Holiday Decorations

November 15 - January 15

Submitted by Ginny Wagner, Community Standards Supervisor, [email protected]

Each year, appropriate holiday decorations can be displayed from November 15 through January 15, so decorate your mailboxes, light up your homes, and add appropriate displays to the yard. If you are decorating your own house and yard, remember to do it safely. Have someone hold the ladder and be ready to call for help if the situation warrants. Have a joyous holiday season.

Native Area Mowing Update

Submitted by Carlton Mathis, Water Manager, [email protected]

Level 3 mowing continues. The level 3 areas in Sun City are divided into 3 phases that are numbered in the order in which we will proceed with mowing. The attached map shows the different phases, as well as the paths the crew will use to mow.

Neighborhoods 51-57 and 59 have been mowed. 53, 54, 56 and 59 have been mowed and line trimmed.

We’re moving at a “good clip” (Pun intended).

Wind Turbines are Powering Georgetown!

Wind turbines are providing for Georgetown’s energy needs three months ahead of schedule. The Spinning Spur 3 wind farm near Amarillo, which was projected to start producing electricity in January, became operational September 28. The wind plant is now providing energy to meet most of Georgetown’s daily power needs.

Last March, the City of Georgetown announced that the municipal electric utility will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy by 2017. The utility will be powered by the EDF Renewable Energy wind plant and a SunEdison solar farm that will be constructed near Fort Stockton next year.
