We have new food vendors and local businesses ready to help you with that next project, trip or service. Come visit with your friends and neighbors and check out what your Sun City Texas Vendor Fair has to offer! ________________ Sign Up Begins Today for the Deer Census Submitted by the Wildlife Management Committee It's time to sign up for the 12th Annual Deer Census! Volunteers may sign up at any of the Monitors desks (Texas Drive, Cowan Creek or Activities Center), through a link on the Sun City website Resident Home Page or Click Here. Sign-ups will be available through September 13. Volunteers are needed for walking trail routes and street and golf course routes. Couples may work together as a team as long as both sign up separately and note that they are a couple on the sign-up form.
The census will be conducted each evening during September 19-21. Pairs of volunteers will follow a specific route to count the deer they see. Counting involves either walking trails or driving a golf cart along assigned street routes and golf courses. Those wishing to walk trails will walk up to two miles. Golfers are needed for the golf course routes. (In case of bad weather, alternate dates will be September 22-23.)
On Monday, September 19, an orientation session will begin at the Activities Center at 6:30 p.m. The count will begin at approximately 7 p.m. and require up to 1.5 hours for each team to complete its route. Each team will then return to the Activities Center to report its results (and claim an ice cream reward).
Route assignments will be based on the ability to participate on all evenings consecutively and time of sign-up. Those selected will be notified by email or telephone by 5 p.m, September 16. Volunteers who are not initially assigned to routes will be asked to be available to fill in for others who unexpectedly find themselves unable to participate. Most years, all volunteers have had an opportunity to participate at least one night!

Water Matters: Adjust Your Watering ScheduleSubmitted by Carlton Mathis, Common Area & Irrigation Superintendent, 512-948-7792, [email protected]
I have resumed my two day per week watering schedule in the common areas, but I am using a 75% water budget. For instance, stations that would normally run an hour will only run for 45 minutes. The water budget feature, or seasonal adjustment on some controllers, is an easy way to increase or decrease water to the landscape for all stations on a controller without having to individually alter each station. With the cooler temperatures, overwatering the landscape is invitation to molds and fungus to take hold and damage valuable plant material and turf.
If you need assistance with your landscape irrigation system, the Water Matters Team is available to help familiarize you with it. If you need help setting up your controller, or would like a complete and thorough evaluation of your irrigation system, send an email to [email protected], or contact your Neighborhood Representative. A Water Matters Ambassador will come to your home to assist you.
