Effective Monday, Oct. 5
Fitness Center Operation: No Reservation System
Starting Monday, Oct. 5, the fitness centers will no longer require reservations. Residents will be allowed to enter the three fitness centers any time during regular operating hours when space is available and when the facility is not shut down for the designated cleaning time.

NEW PROCEDURE: Residents may enter the fitness center anytime during operating hours listed below for a maximum 90-minute session. The recommended capacity for each building will be followed. When that capacity is reached, no one else may enter until someone leaves.

All residents must exit the building for a 30-minute cleaning at the designated times below.

Then residents will be allowed to re-enter the building on the hours listed below until the recommended maximum capacity has been met.

If you arrive at a fitness center and the maximum capacity has been met, then your choices are as follows:
  • Wait until a resident leaves
  • Return for the next 90-minute session after cleaning time
  • Go to a different fitness center to see if they are at capacity

PLEASE NOTE: If the fitness center you attend has reached its capacity, you will not be allowed in until space is available within that 90 minutes. Please be considerate of one another inside the fitness centers and your fitness staff. Verbal or physical abuse is never accepted nor will it be tolerated.

The fitness staff feels that the new plan will work, since in the history of log-ins at the fitness centers, they have never reached the capacity that is allowed at this time.

RULES WE MUST FOLLOW:
1.     Masks covering the nose and mouth must be worn inside the fitness centers. The only time it may be removed is when you are in the water or drinking water. Mask must be worn as you are waiting for a lap lane or around all pool areas.
2.     No face shields instead of masks.
3.     Social distancing is still required. This means some of your favorite machines are still off-limits. Please don’t gather in groups unless you are from the same household.
4.     All times are in 90-minute segments that includes transitioning out of the buildings. Whether you use 30-minutes or all 90-minutes, you must be out of the building by the designed cleaning time.
5.     We will use 30-minutes after every 90-minute session to clean ALL areas of the building and to disinfect.
6.     Residents must clean all fitness equipment before and after their workouts.
7.     You must sign-in on the computers with your resident card. Please sanitize your hands before touching the machine.
8.     All spas will remain at a capacity of two or three depending on the spa location. Please refer to the signs posted at all spas areas.
9.     You must sign-up on the lap lane boards for 30-minute increments just like we did pre-COVID.
10.  No showers or lockers are available at this time.
11.  No cash or credit card payments for training sessions will be accepted until a later date. Member charge only.
12.  No guests allowed!

Tell the Story of the Person "Behind the Brick"
You’ve probably seen the many bricks which fill the Veterans Memorial Plaza located in the heart of Sun City. Since its dedication in 2003, over 4,300 bricks honoring servicemen and women have been placed within this plaza. But with room for only 48 letters, numbers and spaces on the brick, the words can only tell a fraction of the honorees’ stories. Sun Rays would like to tell the rest.

If you have ever purchased or been honored by a brick, tell us the story behind the name, unit, ship or organization inscribed. Stories will be featured in Sun Rays’ “Behind the Brick” series. Submissions should be no more than 500 words, and photographs are highly encouraged. Sun Rays will be happy to document awards, medals and other ephemera upon request. Please send your stories to [email protected] by Friday, Oct. 16 to be featured in 2021. All questions can be directed to Jaime Calder via email or call 512-948-7745.
Cowan Creek Opens Monday, Sept. 28

  • Saturday – Sunday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lobby is closed until further notice.
If you have a favorite local nonprofit that is in need of donations or is hosting a fundraising event (even virtual) email a paragraph (75 words or less) including the name and purpose of the charity to Nancy Snow at [email protected] Be sure to include the organization name and the email or phone number of a contact person.  Submissions may be considered for publication in the November Sun Rays. Deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Blue Santa Donation Event
The Georgetown Police Department and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni will host their Blue Santa Drive-Thru donation event in Sun City:

  • Saturday, Oct. 3
  • 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Cowan Creek Pavilion

This event provides residents an opportunity to contribute toward helping meet the needs of children for this upcoming Christmas season. It is anticipated demand may be larger this year than ever before and donations are crucial to meeting the need.

Monetary donations in lieu of new unwrapped toys are encouraged this year in order to help limit the handling of items and sanitation necessary to protect Santa’s elves. Monetary donations will also allow more toys to be purchased in bulk buys which stretch the dollars further and help focus the supply of gifts to the specific ages needed.

Please drive through and handoff your donation to help children in need to enjoy a brighter Christmas. Please make donations in the form of cash or check, with checks payable to “Georgetown Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association” or (“CPAAA”), a 501c3 organization.
