GO CHANGE YOUR TIE
Our first date was in 1955 when we were both sophomores in
college. I thought this guy from Texas was pretty cute, so decided
to ask him to join me for a large family dinner at a local fancy
restaurant to celebrate my parents’ anniversary. He didn’t have a
car, so I picked him up. He was looking good: nice slacks, a sports
jacket…and an open neck shirt with a bolo tie. No way would
that pass for a coat and tie at this fancy place! I was mortified
and had to tell him to change and get a tie. Didn’t seem to faze
him, and we’ve since had 54 wonderful years together!
PAUL & MARLENE SCHLOSSBERG
I GUESS I SHOULD START DATING YOUR SISTER
He and my brother
became friends at CCNY.
He’d call the house
regularly – that’s how we
met. We would be on the
phone for hours. I was 14.
He was 18. I guess we
developed a friendship
that just continues on
and on. He was already
driving and came by the
house one day while I
was walking a neighbor’s
German Shepard. Now Paul and Marlene Schlossberg
there was a face to go with
that voice. One day he was talking to my brother and he said,
“I guess I should start dating your sister because I’m going to
marry her one day.” So we starting hanging out together. We
had all the ups and down that couples go through when they
start out. We were luckier than most. We were married ten days
after I graduated from college. This past July we celebrated
our 48th wedding anniversary.
