The Poker Club held a Texas Hold’em
No Limit tournament on December 19,
2014 with 30 members participating in
the event. Congratulations to Roland
Schroeder for winning the tournament
with Louise Phillips placing second and
Alan Bourdo placing third.

FEBRUARY YARD OF THE MONTH
Jim and Donna Kotrla • 211 Scissortail Trail (N35)
As you walk toward Donna and Jim’s front door, groupings of old central Texas
friends such as lantana and sago palms, all clipped to perfection, welcome you.
Instead of continuing with the reserved refinement of the front yard, the rear
patio opens onto large, graceful and free form beds brimming over with a wide
variety of textures and hues akin to the relaxed and festive atmosphere of an
old English garden. And kicking it up a notch, a long ribbon of unifying Orange
Profusion zinnias dances across the yard, barely containing the party of plantings
behind it. In addition to being masterful gardeners, the Kotrlas also work smart
and share their love of gardening. Jim uses a programmable robotic mower to
assist with areas of the grass, and the swath of line dancing zinnias give Donna a
hand by reseeding themselves each year. Appropriate plantings, a small watering
hole and mud bath bid the butterflies welcome. And to encourage the rest of us,
Donna literally leaves no stone unturned. Instead, she paints those stones with
plant names such as cherry sage, four-nerve daisy and damianita - sharing her
success stories with both friends and passersby. This is truly a special garden
that contains something for everyone! ~
