Princess Beanie Baby
Submitted by Carol Miller, N62
My favorite Halloween costume is the one
I made for our granddaughter in 1998.
She was 8 months old that Halloween.
Beanie Babies were very popular that
year and I collected them for our new
granddaughter.
The Princess Beanie Baby had just been
released honoring Princess Diana and
since Kaylee was our Princess, I decided
to make her a Princess costume duplicat-
ing the original Beanie Baby as close as I
could. I also made a special Beanie Bag
tag with a message to her on the tag.
I submitted photos to the Ty Company’s
Beanie Baby magazine and they were
chosen to be published in the magazine
the following Halloween in 1999.
Kaylee is now 16 years old and still our
Princess!
THE GOOD OLD DAYS
Submitted by Stephanie Greene Flanagan, N42
Halloween was always a fun time at our house with my four
children. From the time they were old enough to trick or treat,
I always made a costume for each of themwith old things from
around the house. (I am no seamstress, you understand!) Over
the years, their costumes included: a sack of flour, a few old
ladies (to this day two of my sons hold it against me), a gypsy,
a pirate, a bunny, a few bums, Peter Pan, a Matador, Dracula,
and the biggest clown of all, ME! We always enjoyed carving
the biggest pumpkin we could find, and making candy apples.
One year we even won a funny pumpkin contest. We turned
our pumpkin into Mickey Mouse. After the children became
too old to trick or treat, our porch turned into a spook house
to scare all the little ones. Usually I was in the middle of it
all with a witch costume and some witches brew. Until about
10 years ago, my youngest son and his wife would turn my
garage and driveway into a House of Horror. Children and
their parents from several neighborhoods couldn’t wait for each
year. The next day, I would receive little gifts and cards left
on my porch from parents, thanking me and the kids for such
clean Halloween fun! Those were the good ole’ days before we
worried about razor blades in the candy or how much high
fructose corn syrup was in candy!

Baby.

loween as much as her children did.
