The Couples Golf Association (CGA) is
off to a busy start for the 2014 season.
Our informational meeting in Febru-
ary was well-attended and provided the
opportunity for folks to ask questions
about this newly-chartered club and to
get clarification on rules, regulations
and policies.
Our first two playdays as an officially-
chartered club occurred on February 15
and March 8. Both play days featured
fields of at least 55 couples with pay-outs
to 60 percent of the field.
Our next play day is Saturday, April 12
at Legacy Hills and features a shotgun
start at 1 p.m. How do you sign up? You
must first be a member of the CGA, so go
to our website at
> Site
Index > Couples Golf Association Club
to join the club and to sign up for the
April 12 playday. The website also fea-
tures a complete list of all our playdays
for 2014, as well as dates of upcoming
social events.
Planning is in full-swing for the
annual Sun Bowl Invitational to
be held on Tuesday, May 20. This
event is completely self-funded,
meaning the budget is based solely
on registration fees and any dona-
tions that might come our way. In
an effort to support local businesses
and have them support us as well,
we are soliciting hole sponsors for
the first time. We are always so
grateful to Sheila Diller, manager
of the Golf Shops, for her tremen-
dous support with such neat prizes
and all she does for WGA-9!
Eclectic Tournament
Tuesdays, April 15 and 22, are the
dates for our first tournament of the
year. The social committee will treat
players to a wine and cheese party
immediately following the second
day of the Eclectic Tournament. A
unique arrangement is followed for
this golf outing. Players compete in-
dividually in both a low gross and a
low net game format. The tourna-
ment occurs on Cowan Creek on two
consecutive Tuesdays.
Each player
will play the same nine holes
of Cowan Creek on both days
of the tournament.
Each player’s
total score will be calculated by se-
lecting the best score for each hole
from the two days of play.
Club Updates
Our Golf Ambassador Program
is underway, the website is be-
ing studied and revised, and the
cancellation guidelines have been
shared with other groups! Also,
each member is being given an
easy access “Rules of Play” lami-
nated card which can be attached
to a key chain or golf bag; this is an
effort to maintain the proper pace
of play and increase knowledge of
the rules.
We are looking forward to hav-
ing many more ladies join our fun
group. Come play!

It’s hard to believe that the first quar-
ter of 2014 has come and gone. I guess
there is some truth to the old adage that
“time flies when you’re having fun.” Our
first major tournament of the year, the
Spring Member/Member, was played
March 26-27. We had a full field of near-
ly 300 members in attendance. I’ve been
told everyone had a good time, which
seems to have been confirmed by the
beverage receipt turned in by our Bever-
age Tsar. It looks like the MGA is doing
its part to support the local economy.
What’s next? Our President’s Cup is
scheduled for May 14 and 15. Look for
the announcement regarding registra-
tion for this event on or about April 1.
This is our most popular event since
everyone wins and I’m sure the field will
fill quickly. So, don’t procrastinate or you
may miss out on the festivities.
Your Tournament Committee continues
to lay the groundwork for the rest of our
major tournaments. A big part of this ef-
fort centers on our sponsorship program,
which is experiencing another good year.
All of our tournaments benefit from the
generosity of our sponsors, so keep them
in mind as you support our local busi-
nesses.
