Please note the change in our meeting
day to the
second Wednesdays
and
the place to the
Georgetown and Flor-
ence Rooms at Cowan Creek
at 12:30
p.m. If you want to learn more about
what grows here in Sun City, join the
Garden Club. Whether you are a nov-
ice gardener, an expert, or somewhere
in between, we promise you will enjoy
and value our group. You will save a lot
(
and have a lot of fun while you do it)
by attending our programs and picking
up tips from other gardeners and expert
speakers. We also share and swap plants
and feature gardeners and yards of the
month. We work together with the Sun
City Firewise and Water Wise groups,
have an informative website, and ac-
cess to numerous resources. Come to
the January 9 meeting and see what
we are all about!
Just a reminder, the Sun City Garden
Club Tour (community-wide event) will be
on May 3 and 4, 2013, so mark your cal-
endars now. You will not want to miss it!
Our January speaker is Renee Stude-
baker, writer, garden designer and life-
long gardener. For this edible garden
designer and writer, it’s hard to imagine
a garden (or a life) that doesn’t include
onions. It was a happy day when she
heard about Egyptian Walking On-
ions—root-hardy, top-setting onions that
are almost evergreen and so tough they
practically grow themselves. And when
she discovered the Purple Leaf Collard
Tree and the 7-Year Lima, a new gar-
dening obsession was born: perennial
vegetables.
