KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BINGO
Bingo will be offered in the Sun City
Ballroom on Sunday, January 13 and
Sunday, January 27. Doors open at 5
p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. All cash
prizes awarded and proceeds are used
to support various charitable activities.

SENIOR U FREE LECTURE
Senior University will present a free
lecture on Thursday, January 17 at 7
p.m. in the Ballroom. “A Brief History
of Medical Ethics” will be presented
by Paxton H. Howard Jr., MD. It will
include events since World War II that
have caused us to rethink our medical
ethics ( i.e. transportation, abortion, end
of life care, and financing health care).
Dr. Howard has a medical degree from
Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
He did his residency at the Mayo Clinic
and practiced internal medicine at Scott
and White in Temple. He is also a retired
professor of internal medicine and medi-
cal humanities at University of Texas.
GEORGETOWN SYMPHONY
Georgetown Symphony Society presents
a Patriotic Concert on Sunday, January
27
at 4 p.m. in the GHS Klett Center for
the Performing Arts. The Symphony So-
ciety will present the Temple Symphony
Orchestra in “For Love of Country,” a
musical tribute celebrating America from
composers such as Cohan, Berlin, Sousa,
and John Williams. Tickets are $27 for
premium seating; $20 for general admis-
sion; $5 for students, and are available
at the Member Services Office or at the

SENIOR U WINTER CLASSES
Senior University’s Winter Classes will
begin January 28 and continue through
March 5. A few of the new classes in-
clude: “New Archeology Finds from
Greece,” “Mis-Arguing History,” “Amer-
ica and the Vietnam Era,” “Evolution in
Biology,” and many more. Sign up now!
Also, there is a new travel opportu-
nity: on Thursday, January 10, there
is a dinner and theatre trip. Dinner is
at the French Quarter in Round Rock
and the Austin Playhouse will present

VALENTINE “GALA”
The Georgetown Symphony Society will
present a “Gala” dinner-dance on Friday,
February 8 at 6 p.m. in the Sun City Ball-
room. Music will be provided by the Nash
Hernandez Orchestra, directed by Ruben
Hernandez. C.J.’s Catering will cater the
event and a Valentine “boutique” with
items from Quenan’s Jewelers, Grape
CreekWinery, The Escape, Sweet Seren-
dipity, and Garden Path. Tickets are $65
per person with tables of eight available.
All proceeds will benefit the Symphony
Society’s concert season and its Children’s
Musical Enrichment Program. RSVP by

ART FOR ANIMALS
Donations of artwork are being accepted
for the 2013 Art for Animals auction to
benefit the City of Georgetown Animal
Shelter. The annual fundraiser, held on
Saturday, February 9, is sponsored by
the Friends of the Georgetown Animal
Shelter. Donations of framed artwork
and hand-crafted items, such as pottery,
sculptures, jewelry, and glass work, will
be accepted through January 25. Other
donations needed for the auction include
gift baskets, travel packages, and other
unique items.

TH ANNUAL FAT TUESDAY
The San Gabriel Women’s Club is spon-
soring the sixth annual Fat Tuesday
Games Day & Luncheon on Tuesday,
February 12 at the San Gabriel Com-
munity Center. There will be a 9:30 a.m.
breakfast and games run from 10 a.m. to
2:30
p.m., with a break for lunch. Cost
is $20 for the full day, and $10 for lunch
only. Proceeds benefit the San Gabriel
Women’s scholarship fund and local
