The Street Photography SIG is a Special Interest Group of people who take candid pictures in public places. These pictures tell stories, raise questions, arouse emotions, or do any combination of the three. Street Photography is one of the earliest photographic genres, and the kind of photography that most of us took with our first cameras. It is not the kind that uses post-processing techniques to make "artistic" pictures or "record shots" of the world around us. This SIG is designed to answer the question of what Street Photography is and how you do it.

SIG Goals

People who join this SIG should learn how to:

  1. Define street photography and examine the work of well-known street photographers
  2. Examine the legal and ethical aspects of this genre.
  3. Decide which types of street photography pictures to take: hunting, fishing, portrait, etc.
  4. Conquer the fear of taking street photography photos.
  5. Choose an appropriate camera and set it.
  6. Select suitable places to take street photography pictures.
  7. Blend-in with the crowd while taking street photography photos.
  8. Develop the skill of "reading the street."
  9. Overcome any hesitancy about approaching and taking pictures of strangers.
  10. Critique street photography pictures.
