Plant Sales

The Horticulture Club holds two Plant Sales per year, one in the Spring (late March or early April) and one in the Fall (late September). Both are major fundraisers for the Club, allowing us to continue to make the Sun City Gardens a wonderful place to pursue organic gardening.

The sale dates for 2022 are:
  • Saturday, April 9, from 9 AM to 1 PM
  • Saturday, September 18 (tentative date), from 9 AM to 1 PM. (Iris emphasized with greenhouse plants, compost tea, and BTN compost)

We will provide the best plants that thrive in Central Texas - we will not stock a plant we would not be willing to plant in our own garden.  We get many of our perennials from local wholesale growers, selecting only the best specimens we can find.  Our focus is on Texas Native and Adapted plants.  Click Here for a partial list of plants we expect to have at the spring sale.  We also have a large selection of Iris for the Spring sale this year.

Vegetables, herbs and annuals are grown in the large greenhouse at the Gardens and are usually available several weeks before the actual sale date.  Bearded Iris are grown in our Gardens for sale all year long.

Payment can be made by cash, check, or credit card during the sales.

Year-Round Sales

The Horticulture Club has these items for sale year-round on Thursday and Saturday mornings - from 9-11 AM except in bad weather (rain, freezing).  Cash or Checks only. All proceeds benefit the Sun City Gardens.

  • Plants. Come shop our Nursery of rescued plants - great deals on a varied selection of plants. If you have plants to donate, please bring them to the Nursery during the hours above.
  • Iris. We have over 50 varieties of Bearded Iris in our propagation inventory, and many varieties are potted and ready for sale. Iris are a perennial and require very little water.
  • 'Back To Nature' cotton burr compost.  One of the best organic sources of nitrogen, macro- & micro-nutrients needed by your plants, it will also help break up clay soils.  We stock two varieties:  ACIDIFIED has 1% sulphur added, to help combat the high pH water in Central Texas; $10.00 for members and $12.00 for non-members per 2 cu.ft. bag.  REGULAR is a courser grind compost great for flower beds & potted plants; $12.00 for members and $15.00 for non-members per 3 cu.ft. bag. All prices include tax.  This product may not be appropriate for use on lawns.
  • Compost Tea. Usually brewed the first Saturday of the month (weather permitting) - $3.00 per gallon; dilute 5:1 (makes 5 gallons). Since Compost Tea is composed of living organisms, it should be used within 24 hours. We brew compost tea from worm castings, except when the weather is too hot (over 90 deg.) or too cold (40 or below), in which case it may be available the following Saturday.

If you are changing your landscaping or have plants to donate, bring them by the Gardens on Thursday or Saturday mornings between 9-11 AM. All donations of landscape plants are greatly appreciated.
