Sun City Attempted Burglary in Neighborhood 85
Submitted by the Community Association

Sun City Texas received a message from Georgetown Police Department that there has been another potential attempted burglary where a front door was damaged. The incident took place in Neighborhood 85 on March 11, 2020 between the hours of 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.

As we receive additional information from the Georgetown Police Department we will update the community.

We want to provide our community with some helpful safety tips.

In an emergency dial: 911
Be vigilant and report suspicious activity to the non-emergency police number: 512-930-3510

  • We encourage residents to make sure all your doors locked when you are home and especially at night when you sleep.
  • Residents also are urged to report suspicious activity, such as nonresidents walking or driving up and down the street, checking for unlocked doors, or looking in windows, backyards or vehicles.
  • Vehicles cruising a neighborhood at very slow speeds, or people sitting in a vehicle for an extended period can be signs of suspicious activity.
  • Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
  • Burglaries do happen in the daylight hours.
  • Lock all outside doors and windows before you leave the house or go to bed. Even if it is for a short time, lock your doors. Deadbolts are good for outside doors.
  • Leave lights on when you go out. If you are going to be away for a length of time, connect some lamps to automatic timers to turn them on in the evening and off during the day.
  • Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers or flyers build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
  • Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Even a wooden dowel or a track blocker will help prevent the door from opening.

Other Precautions to take:
  • Never leave keys under doormats, flowerpots, mailboxes or other "secret" hiding places. Burglars know where to look for hidden keys.
  • Keep a detailed inventory of your valuable possessions. Your insurance company can provide assistance in making and keeping your inventory.
  • Be a good neighbor. If you notice anything suspicious in your neighborhood, call the police department.
