 February Class Changes
Texas Drive
  • The 9:15 a.m. Aqua Fitness class on Saturday will return on February 1. Howie will be your instructor. Welcome Howie to our team. 
 
Cowan Creek
  • The Introduction to Yoga series class on Mondays and Wednesdays at 11:30 will be called Beginner Yoga. Ellen will continue to teach the class as she has been. Enjoy!
 February Series Classes
 Registration began Tuesday, January 7th
at the Cowan Creek, The Retreat or the Texas Drive Fitness Centers.
*Only pre-registered participants may attend these classes.

Beginner Cycling
Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30 – 4 p.m. • Cowan Creek
8 classes for $26, February 3 - 26
Please come 10 minutes early to the first class to be set up on the bike!
These classes are recommended and designed for those who are new to indoor cycling. This class will familiarize new riders on how to properly set up their bikes, spinning techniques and terms, and how to monitor exercise intensity. Taught by Cara.
 
Meditation II - Mind-Body-Spirit Hour
Wednesdays 3 – 4 p.m. • Cowan Creek in the Salado Room
4 classes for $30, February 5 - 26
Advance your meditation practice in this series. We will combine knowledge of chair yoga postures, stress management skills and natural remedies for total mind-body-spirit wellness. The final 20-30 minutes will be dedicated to meditation. Meditation has proven benefits in reducing symptoms of every disease and improving cognitive functioning and memory. Learn relaxation techniques that can decrease anxiety, increase inner peace and effectively transform your outlook. Taught by Ki.
 Please Note: As our community grows, it is important to transform most of our past series classes to ticket classes. This provides more opportunity for all of our residents to enjoy more classes. Therefore, the following classes will become regular ticket classes as of Saturday, February 1. These classes include: Active Yoga for Seniors, Beginner Pilates, Yoga Nidra, Beginner Pilates for Men, Chair Yoga and Introduction to Yoga.

Please make sure you are dry when using the scales in the locker rooms. Also, please dry the toilet seat off if you are wet from the pool or shower. Please be courteous to others. Thank you!

Warming Up is Key
 
It is well-known that muscles can weaken as we age. But in our efforts to maintain our strength, we forget that we can also lose flexibility in our connective tissues through tissue stiffness and tissue dehydration. Losing flexibility in our connective tissues can lead to a host of problems, including injury.
 
This is why warming up before a workout and incorporating stretching and foam-rolling* in our routines is so important.

*Foam-rolling is contraindicated in some cases, depending on the diagnosis of your discomfort. If you have concerns, discuss them with your doctor and seek workout advice from a trainer.
