The Nominating Committee is gearing up for their bi-annual process of making recommendations to the Board of Directors for upcoming vacancies to the advisory Committees in the Community Association governance structure. The Nominating Committee itself will have two upcoming vacancies later this fall.
If you are interested in serving on the Nominating Committee, Click Here to print an application or pick one up at the CA Member Services Office on Texas Drive. The deadline to apply is Monday, Nov. 4. Applications should be turned in to Katie Newnam in the CA Member Services Office by 4 p.m.
The Board of Directors will be conducting interviews on Thursday, Nov. 7 following their regularly scheduled Board Workshop. CA Staff will coordinate specifics with applicants. Thank you!

District 3 Councilman Michael Triggs will host a Town Hall for residents of District 3, which encompasses almost half of Sun City as well as other neighborhoods. Among the subjects he will discuss is how new state legislation will affect Georgetown's property tax assessment rate and how citizens can prepare for it. This event will not be recorded.

Whether you are out jogging, walking your dog or taking a stroll, make sure that you can be seen while walking at night. Always be alert to traffic and NEVER assume that a cars sees you. Wear bright reflective clothing; a reflective vest is a good investment. Be especially alert when walking or running during the dusk or dawn hours.
Ditto for bicyclists - and use your lights!

If you are new to Sun City Texas, please join us for the New Resident Orientation. At 8:30 a.m., the Club Fair begins. Enthusiastic members will visit with you and tell you about their chartered clubs. The Community Association staff presentation begins at 9:15 a.m. and ends at 10 a.m. You will have an opportunity to meet the staff, learn how your Association operates, and gather valuable information.

DESIGN GUIDELINES
Tree Removal
Article 4.22 of the new Design Guidelines allows home wners to use the No-Paperwork List to remove a tree if it is one of the native trees listed in Appendix D and the tree is less than 19 inches in circumference when measured 12 inches from the ground.
The removal of all other trees requires an application to the Modifications Committee, a written recommendation from a certified arborist and a photograph of the tree to be removed. The removal of a tree includes the removal of all resulting debris and either grinding or cutting the stump to ground level. Top 10 Scams

There are many financial scams that specifically target seniors this time of year. Why are seniors targeted? Seniors are thought to have a significant amount of money in their bank accounts. These types of crimes are considered “low-risk” because they go unreported and they can be difficult to prosecute because the criminal is virtually “untraceable” with today’s technology.
Below is a list of the most popular scams that you should be familiar with, so that you can spot them. Remember, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is!
- Medicare/health insurance scams: Perpetrators of these scams pose as Medicare representatives to get personal information. (Never give personal information away to strangers. If you think it is a legitimate call, get their name and call the company back using the phone number that you have on file - not the caller's number.)
- Counterfeit prescription drugs: Paying for fake drugs that can harm your body, not just your wallet.
- Funeral and cemetery scams: Scammers prey on widowers and claim the deceased had an outstanding debt.
- Fraudulent anti-aging products: These can range from fake Botox or homeopathic remedies that do nothing.

Telemarketing/phone scams: This is the most common scheme because it is hard to trace. Scammers get the victim to trust them or prey on their emotions. Never give them credit card numbers.
- Internet fraud: Targets users to download malicious software at a cost which may allow scammers to copy files or steal personal information.
- Investment schemes: Investment schemes that take money rather than safeguard it. Pyramid schemes like Bernie Madoff’s or a "prince" from a foreign country looking for a partner to claim inheritance money.
- Homeowner/reverse mortgage scams: These scams come in the form of elaborate letters or phone calls from companies that will charge a fee to reassess property value of the home to lower the property taxes.
- Sweepstakes and lottery scams: Victims have been informed that they have won a lottery or sweepstakes and need to make a payment to unlock the "prize."
- The grandparent scam: A call is placed to an older person and the scammer will tell them that a family member needs money for an unexpected financial problem (late rent, car repairs, bail money, etc.).
