Ah-Choo!

For those of you who suffer with cedar fever or other annoying Texas allergies, you have our deepest sympathies.

But if it’s a full-blown cold or even worse the flu that’s causing you to sniffle, sneeze and cough, please be kind to others and stay at home. Germs can spread like wildfire in the gym or in aerobic classes such as cycling or Pilates - where we are all in close proximity to one another.
Help Keep
Everyone Healthy

Cold and flu season is also a good time of year to remind everyone to always practice good gym etiquette and wipe down all equipment after use. Canisters of disinfecting wipes are scattered throughout both fitness centers for your convenience.

Tips from the Trainers
The Periformis

The next muscle we will cover in the core series is the piriformis

The piriformis is another hip muscle. It connects to the sacrum and is located near our gluteal muscles. This muscle helps us externally rotate and abduct our hips. We also engage the piriformis when we extend our hips. This muscle also plays and import role in stabilizing the hips and sacroiliac joints (joints connecting your ilium and sacrum).

Working the piriformis include exercises that also work the glutes such as bridging. Many people suffer with problems from the piriformis. Some experts believe that the direct compression from too much walking or running can cause discomfort.

Stretching the piriformis can bring some relief in many cases. Click Here to read an article from the National Academy of Sports Medicine about stretching the piriformis.* If you are still interested in seeking guidance for working and stretching your piriformis, talk to a Sun City personal trainer!

* The information in this Tip and in this link should NOT be a substitute for medical advice. If you have issues with your piriformis, seek professional advice from your physician.
