Golf 101
Summer Golf 101 classes are here! The Golf 101 class is designed for individuals and couples who are beginner golfers, golfers with limited golf experience, or golfers who have experienced a significant layoff. This class offers golfers instruction on all aspects of the golf swing as well as rules and etiquette tips, and general information regarding playing and practicing in Sun City. The fee for the class is $169 for individuals and $299 for couples.
This month, there will only be one class available and it is listed below. We will be back up to multiple options in September/October. Contact the pro listed to register.

On Friday, Aug. 16, the Summer Boutique Bazaar will be held in the Social Center Ballroom from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the golf shops plan to be there! We will have a lot of novelty and gift items for golfers and non-golfers alike, so stop by and check it out!

USGA RULES OF GOLF
Maximum Score / Equitable Stroke Control
Among the many changes to the USGA Rules of Golf that became effective January 1 is the concept of “Maximum Score” and, by extension, a change to Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) calculations.
Effective immediately for Sun City golfers: The Maximum Score on a given hole will be the score that nets the golfer, based on his or her handicap, a net double bogey. For example, on a par 4 the Maximum Score could be a 6, 7, 8 or 9, depending on whether the golfer receives zero, 1, 2 or 3 handicap strokes on that particular hole.
When a player reaches his or her Maximum Score, he or she is encouraged to “pick-up.” Players can, of course, continue to play out the hole beyond their Maximum Score, but are encouraged not to do so, especially if the course is crowded or if there are any issues with pace of play.
For entering golf round scores into the GHIN system, the Maximum Score is the ESC score that must be part of the calculation of the total score for the round. For example, if a golfer chooses to play beyond his or her Maximum Score and, say, takes an 8 whereas his or her maximum score is a 7, the total score for the round must be reduced by 1 before entering the score into GHIN.
The USGA Maximum Score concept is not intended for elite play, but is applicable for day-to-day play and can be adopted by Sun City golf clubs for their weekly playdays and periodic tournaments. To the extent Sun City golf clubs choose to observe Maximum Score, “picking up” and recording a Maximum Score on a given hole does not disqualify a golfer from an event or tournament.

Attention Punch Card Holders!
Now that we have reached the mid-year point we are seeing many punch card holders, especially 25 and 50 round punch card holders, running low or are out of rounds. To check on your status, you may inquire in the golf shops or review your monthly statement.
Buying More Rounds
To buy more rounds, you may do so in minimum quantities of ten rounds at the same per round rate. You may also pay as you go at the same per round rate. However, given the amount of time until the end of the year, and for efficiency at check-in, we encourage golfers to go with the minimum of ten (10) rounds. Of course you can buy more than ten but the purchase still needs to be in increments of ten. Twenty-five (25) rounds is also an option.

We ask that every golf cart have an ID sticker. These stickers are free and you can get them at the Member Services Office or any golf shop.
It’s a simple process. All that is needed is a sticker affixed at the bottom/middle of your windshield. This is an important item which allows us to identify who you are in the event of an emergency.

Adopt-A-Hole
The adopt-a-hole program is designed to provide assistance in maintaining the golf course through a variety of actions that include sanding divots, fixing ball marks, picking up tees and other debris and notifying the golf course maintenance staff of any issues that may need special attention.
