Reflective Address Markings
Submitted by Carl Zimmerman,
Community Standards Director, [email protected]

Recently, a non-community member has been putting flyers in mailboxes offering to paint your home’s address number with reflective paint on the curb in front of your home for a $25 donation. The person making the offer claims that having the address painted on the curb will greatly assist all police, fire or emergency services units responding to an emergency in finding your home.

Fortunately, most residents ignored this flyer’s offer recognizing that all homes in the community have lighted address plates and that emergency vehicles have Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) systems that assist them in finding the location of an emergency. This kind of residential modification is not included in the No-Paperwork List so having this work done would require an application and approval from the Modifications Committee.

The new version of the Design Guidelines being considered for community-wide approval later this month prohibits the painting of house numbers on street curbs.
What’s that Boom?

We live in rural Texas surrounded by ranches, a rock quarry and Fort Hood is only 35 miles away. Each of these land holders present unique situations that you might not have encountered before, especially if you moved here from an urban environment.

  • Fort Hood is the largest military reservation in the U.S. Every now and then it conducts artillery training. Even 35 miles away, residents will hear that activity; and sometimes they do this at night. If you hear these alarming sounds, try to remember that the Army is training to keep America safe.

  • CC Aggregates is a sand and rock supplier located across Hwy 195. That activity sometimes requires drilling and blasting. Occasionally residents will hear a sonic boom type sound which is probably that quarry.

  • On ranches in Williamson County (in which Sun City is located), you may discharge a shotgun, air rifle, air pistol, BB gun, or bow and arrow on a tract of land 10 acres or more. On a tract of land 50 acre or more, you may fire a center-fire or rim-fire rifle or pistol of any caliber. Shot guns and large caliber weapons will produce booms. In these cases, the firearm must be discharged in a safe manner. Please Click Here to read the complete Texas Statute.
Dead Animal Removal

  • If the dead animal is on your property or city property, please call Georgetown Animal Control at 512-864-8282.
  • If the animal is in a CA common area, usually they are left to let nature takes its course, however sometimes they are located too close to homes. If this occurs, please call the Social Center Monitor at 512-948-7701. The monitor will alert staff to assess the situation.
Haven't Gotten Your New Directory?
If you have not received your new Directory, please come to the the Communications Dept. in the Social Center to pick one up. You must bring your Member ID or a photo ID with a Sun City Texas address.
What Should You Do with Your Old Directory?
Native Area Mowing
Submitted by Carlton Mathis, Common Area & Irrigation Superintendent,

Moving right along in Phase 2. Even with some equipment failure, and the taller grasses, we are running a similar pace to last year. Although the majority of this process can be handled by our mowers, there are some areas that are less accommodating and will need to be handled with line trimmers. The line trimmers can be up to three weeks behind the mowers. All cuttings will be left where they fall. This is a Fire Wise exercise only, and not for aesthetic, or any other purpose.
