Coyotes in Sun City Texas

Recently we have had reports of aggressive behavior by coyotes on or near Mockingbird Trail and the Hidden Ravine Natural Area Trails. This abnormal behavior caused the closure of these trail areas while the CA addressed the problem.

We have once again had two complaints concerning one particularly aggressive coyote in this area. If this aggressive behavior escalates, we will once again exercise our option to close these trails and take remedial action for the safety of our residents.

While the CA believes coyotes play an important ecological role in undisturbed habitats, the safety provided to these animals in urban settings can render them increasingly unafraid of humans.

Remember, these are wildlife areas and everyone needs to take proper precautions and enter at their own risk. Dogs may increase the risk of an encounter as coyotes see them as a direct threat. Dogs must be on a leash at all times for their safety and the safety of others. No exceptions.

ALL TRAILS ARE CLOSED AFTER SUNSET NO EXCEPTIONS.

If approached by a coyote.
  • Appear large and aggressive
  • Make loud noises (carry a whistle)
  • Back away slowly
  • Do not run

Friendly Reminders:
Slow Down & Drive Safely
Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director, [email protected]

We have golf carts, bicyclists, walkers and runners all sharing the roads with cars in our community, so I have just one quick reminder for this month - Drive Safely!

Fifty-two percent of accidents occur within 5 miles of home. This happens for a couple of reasons. First, people have a false sense of security driving close to home and they tend to drop their guard. Secondly, they may be more distracted fiddling with cell phones and such before getting out onto the "real" road.

And need I remind you that speeding is the major cause of all traffic accidents. Speeding at any speed! The speed limit in Sun City is 30-35 mph (Depending on the specific roadway). Much of that is based on what you can see within your line-of-sight while going 30-35 mph. For instance, if you are going faster than that while taking a curve, you might not be able react to what you find around that curve, such as a pedestrian or a car turning left in front of you.

In a nut shell, statistically speaking you should be twice as cautious while driving in Sun City. So, put away those distractions, slow down a little bit and let's make Sun City the safest place to drive in Texas. And seat belts...don't forget to buckle up!

New Design Guidelines
Submitted by Carl Zimmerman, Community Standards Director, [email protected]

The Modifications Committee sincerely thanks the 40+ residents who submitted comments on the recently revised Design Guidelines. While not every comment or recommendation will be incorporated, a large number of the recommendations will be included. The Committee will have the document ready for the August Board workshop and meeting.

The Committee hopes to delay the implementation of the new guidelines until October 2019 so they can schedule a town hall meeting about the changes and to brief the Neighborhood Representative Organization. Once again, thank you to everyone who submitted comments on the new Design Guidelines.
