Junior Camp Starts Next Week |
8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Session 1: June 11 - 14
Session 2: June 18 - 21
Junior Camp is a wonderful time when grandchildren of residents get to experience many activities in Sun City. Many of our clubs participate and the kids rotate activities throughout the day; swimming, making art projects, gardening, playing tennis, golf, ping pong and pickleball. We suggest that you check your club's schedule for these next two weeks.
Junior Campers participate in activities throughout the Sun City campus, so be on high alert for children crossing the streets and for the "golf cart trains" we use to transport them.

Junior Campers will be at the Texas Drive Outdoor Pool from 1 - 4 p.m. each camp day June 11 - 14 and June 18 - 21.

Golf Carts and Grandkids: Just Say NO! |

Many grandchildren will be in our community for Junior Camp and during the summer and there will be a temptation to allow them to drive a golf cart. It is against the law and extremely dangerous for anyone under the age of 16 and/or anyone without a driver’s license to drive a golf cart. Please, DO NOT let grandkids get behind the wheel; Georgetown police officers may issue you a ticket. |

Due to five confirmed encounters between hikers and aggressive coyotes over the last month, the Hidden Ravine Natural Area, Quarter Moon and Mockingbird Hiking Trails have been closed until further notice. These trails are located on the east side of Sun City, near Hwy 195.

Horticulture Club Asks for Your Help
Please do no leave stuff for us!
The Sun City Gardens, 141 Sun City Blvd. next to the softball field, has a problem with people leaving bags of trash and/or clippings at our gate. The club does not make mulch out of these "donations" and it fills up their limited trash cans - which will cost more money down the road.
Additionally, they no longer accept yard art, ceramic pots, tools or any other yard items. Your generosity was appreciated but is no longer necessary in this particular area. Thank you, from the members of the Horticulture Club.

Cowan Creek Golf Course Gets New Sod |
|
Installation of new sod to damaged areas on Cowan Creek’s front nine greens has been completed. We anticipate all 18 holes being open for play by Monday, June 17. |

Kudos to Some Awesome CA Employees
Getting the sod here was no small task as it could not be found in our immediate area. As a result, members of our fabulous and dedicated golf staff drove to Bay City, Texas to pick it up. They left at 5 a.m. and made it back at 7 p.m., beating a heavy storm by a only a few hours. Had they not made the drive prior to this storm, we would have waited weeks for new sod!

Properly Disposing of Doggie Bags
Sadly, some residents are discarding their full doggie poop bags into the storm drains and drainage culverts. Please do not do this! Not only is it nasty, but it is disrespectful to your community, neighbors and to Mother Nature.
Here is a note from the City of Georgetown on this matter:
Please note that pet waste in our storm drain system contributes to increased bacteria and ultimately algae growth, reducing oxygen and depleting fish habitat and overall water quality of our drinking sources. Aside from being irresponsible, putting anything other than stormwater into our system is prohibited by ordinance and enforceable by fine and municipal court action. For additional information or to report illegal dumping activities citizens can call 512-930-3640.

Cowan Creek Fitness Upstairs Closed
Remember, the entire upstairs of the Cowan Creek Fitness center is closed until Sunday, June 30 while we replace the fitness studio and track flooring. Fitness classes normally held upstairs will NOT be relocated during this time.

Delayed for a Week

We decided to suspend the start of our maintenance of the Level 3 native areas due to the number of deer nesting sites observed. We plan to resume our schedule on Monday, June 10.
Please leave new fawns alone. Even if you don't see her, mom is nearby.

Georgetown High School in State Finals
The GHS Eagle baseball team has earned a spot in the final State playoff game this Saturday, June 8. They play at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock around noon.
They would love to see a “sea of blue” at the stadium.
Single session tickets are students (2yr+) $7.00 and adults $12.00. Tournament passes are available.

The Music on the Square summer concerts start on Friday, June 14, on the Courthouse lawn. These free concerts start at 6:30 p.m. each Friday, with the exception of First Fridays, in June, July and August. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, grab dinner-to-go from a local restaurant, and enjoy an evening of great live music.

City Seeks Applications for Sculpture Tour
The City of Georgetown is seeking entries for the 2019-20 Sculpture Tour, a juried year-long outdoor exhibit in the busy Georgetown Cultural District. Applications will be accepted through Thursday, Aug. 1. Each sculptor may submit up to three sculptures for consideration.

Children's Friday Movie Series
The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department presents its Sunset Movie Series each month during the summer: June 14: Mary Poppins Returns (PG). July 19: Incredibles 2 (PG); and Aug. 16: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (PG).
The movies are free and start at sunset, around 8:30 p.m. They are shown at San Gabriel Park on the soccer fields behind the Georgetown Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave. Bring blankets, chairs and picnics.
