Legacy Hills Open House

On Monday, Mar. 11, The Legacy Hills Golf Course will be hosting an open house for all Sun City residents. This is a great opportunity for golfers, and non-golfers, to tour the beautiful Legacy Hills Golf Course! The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Carts will be provided as needed and the golf course staff will be available to help answer any and all questions. We look forward to seeing everyone!
Multi-Vendor Demo Day!

The Spring Demo Day will be held Thursday, March 21, at White Wing from 10am to 2pm. This will be an excellent opportunity to see and test some of the new equipment from a variety of vendors. Callaway, TaylorMade, Cleveland, Cobra, Tour Edge, Titleist, and Wilson will all be in attendance.

We will have appointments every 30 minutes for those that wish to have guaranteed one on one time with one of the vendor representatives and/or one of the golf professionals. That said, everyone is encouraged to stop by and see all the new equipment. Appointments can be made through the White Wing Golf Shop, 512-948-7570.

UPDATE & SOLUTIONS
Cowan Creek Drainage

During the winter months, Cowan Creek always tends to stay on the wet side and forces us to go cart path only more than we would like to. This is a product of the construction of Cowan Creek and the material that was used to build it. During the construction process the course was capped with 12 inches of sand on top of limestone and then sodded and sprigged on top of that. This proves to be a very hard growing medium for us and it also does not let the water go anywhere once it reaches the rock underneath. The result of this is a wet golf course that is very difficult to dry out in the winter months. Since October 2018 we have received approximately 18 inches of rain. One of the wettest winters we’ve had in a long time. So, our efforts to dry the course out have been very difficult. The staff has not watered the fairways or roughs since October of 2018.

So what can we do? The answer is drainage. As you may have noticed, the staff installed drainage in front of #3 green this week. We will continue to work on the areas that stay the wettest so that it will help with playability, and for the other areas on the golf course, we are compiling a list of drainage that will be needed to address the overall wetness of the course. Once we have a cost and timeline to do this work we can look to see how much can be done in house or if we are going to be in need of a contractor to complete that scope of work. We will report these findings to the Golf Committee in the March meeting.

Rest assured that the course Superintendent and his staff are doing everything possible to address these issues. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.

2019 Association Sweeps

In 2019, any association member, which includes the MGA, WGA-9, WGA-18, and CGA, will receive a 10% discount on merchandise purchased with sweeps year round rather than just during the sales periods.

In addition to this, sweeps can be used towards Non-Resident Guest Green Fees at the non-resident guest rate. The goal will be to help drive participation through these added benefits from accumulating sweeps so make sure you’ve paid your association dues! Please remember, that the 10% discount cannot be applied with other discount coupons or on sales items.
Legacy Hills Bunker Work

The construction on holes #1, #5 and #9 is complete. All affected areas are currently Ground under Repair, including the affected bunkers, and will likely remain GUR until sometime in the spring, when the turf starts to come out of dormancy. If your ball comes to rest in one of these roped off areas, you are permitted to go into these areas to retrieve your golf ball.

Medical flags only are allowed to utilize 90 degrees on these holes. Otherwise, these holes are Cart Path Only.
