The Parking Lots are Packed

The good news first: It should be satisfying to know that you invested wisely when you chose Sun City Texas as the place to spend your golden years. Its popularity is off the charts as new residents continue to pour in for the active lifestyle it offers. The bad news? Sometimes the abundance of activities can create logjams in our parking lots.

While we feel your pain, we want to make sure residents know that the Fitness Centers do not have control over the amenity center parking lots. The parking lots at Texas Drive and Cowan Creek belong to the Community Association and are available for all community activities and events including fitness, Senior University, the weekly farmers market, fairs, seminars, shred days, golf tournaments and AARP tax preparation. And yes, RV parking is permitted for visitors with a parking permit. Thank you for understanding and for sharing the lots with all of your neighbors.

Water Fountains

In order to reduce the amount of plastic water bottles in our environment, we encourage you to bring your reusable water bottles to the gym and refill from the water fountains.
Tips from the Trainers
Have You Heard This One?

Have you ever heard the notion that if you’re hungry you’re probably not eating enough? Well, if you have, we’re here to clear things up for you.

While it is entirely possible that, if you feel hungry, you are in need of more calories. But you could also be suffering from what is known as caloric disproportion, meaning you might have eaten all the calories to sustain your body for a day, but not in the proper way to avoid hunger, or at least stave it off for a while.

Hunger pains are the result of our stomach muscles contracting when the stomach is empty. When full, the muscles can’t contract as easily. The contractions have nothing to do with the amount of calories you’ve consumed. It’s all about the stomach’s contents.

Say you wake up on a Saturday, for example, and you crave that delicious Red Velvet Ultimate Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory, because it will go so good with your coffee. Well, you’ve just consumed 1570 calories. If your daily calorie requirement is 1500 (without taking into account activity), then you’ve actually gone over what you need. And it stands to reason that, once your body digests the cheesecake, and your stomach empties, you’re going feel hungry, even though you’ve consumed enough calories to sustain you during the day.
It is important to note that, just because you’ve met your calorie requirement, you probably haven’t met your nutritional requirements. We’re all going to get hunger pains here and there. But a healthy, balanced diet will go a long way in preventing your hunger pains.

Everyone’s caloric needs are different. If you have any concerns about whether you’re getting enough calories, consult a Registered Dietician or talk to one of our certified personal trainers.

From the personal training staff: JB Baier, Shepherd Green, Victoria Young, Allison Worley, Julie O’Connor, Michelle Dwyer, Claudia Verde, Brendi Middleton and Mike Stuchl.
