Friendly Reminder:
Holiday Tricks & Scams
Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director, [email protected]

'Tis the season to beware of those on the naughty list!
During the holidays we would like to remind residents to be diligent and double-check all information before sending money, gift cards or gifts. While new scams pop up every day, criminals are especially busy this time of year.

Recently, a resident received an email from a neighbor asking for help buying a birthday present for her niece. The resident discovered that her neighbor's email had been hacked and scammers were using that email to ask for money from all of her neighbor's contacts. Also, every year seniors send thousands of dollars to scammmers assuming they are helping their grandchildren out of an emergency situation. An example of one such scam involves a call from a “lawyer” or “court official” asking for bail money for a grandchild.

Please Click Here to visit the Georgetown Police Department’s Crime Prevention & Safety Tips page to arm yourself with information about scams and how to report fraud.
Golf Courses ONLY Open to Golfers

Dear Residents,
Only golfers may use the golf courses and ONLY during course hours. Residents are not allowed to access the courses or their cart paths during or after hours. Residents may not walk, run, bike, drive their golf carts or walk their dogs anywhere on the courses. And, of course, dogs are never allowed to run freely in Sun City except when they are at the Bark Park.

Basketball Backboard Moved to the Legacy Hills Pavilion Parking Lot
Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director, [email protected]

Shooting some hoops is becoming more popular here in Sun City and due to our pole/ backboard being damaged in the Social Center parking lot, we have moved it to the parking area at the Legacy Hills Pavilion. So, remember if you want to shoot a few hoops, grab your basketball and head to the Legacy Pavilion. If you are interested in joining the basketball interest group, please email Ron Sears at [email protected]. Our ultimate goal is to have a permanent half-court set-up in the future for this activity.

Don't throw those old lights away - recycle!

The City of Georgetown and Texas Disposal Systems have partnered to offer free holiday string-light recycling. Residents can drop off their old or broken string lights through Jan. 31. Last year residents recycled more than 1,300 pounds of Christmas lights.

Sun City residents may drop off old or broken string lights in the designated container at the Cowan Creek Pavilion, 1433 Cool Spring Way, in Sun City.

Community Alerts and Notifications Survey

The City of Georgetown is improving efforts to reach all customers with important time-sensitive information. Examples of this would be an electric or water outage, road closures, boil water notices, etc. We are asking Georgetown residents to participate in a survey to help us refine our communications in a manner that works better for everyone.
