NEXT WEEK!

2024 UIL Golf State Championship

The Boys will play Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30, and the Girls will play on Monday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 7. 6A play will take place at White Wing and 5A play will take place at Legacy Hills.

Please use caution and drive slowly on Del Webb Boulevard and Sun City Boulevard during these events. Volunteers wearing fluorescent vests will assist spectators crossing the streets.

Local election early voting will be taking place at The Oaks, Legacy Hills during the April 29-30 tournament dates as well.

For those who want to attend the tournament, please use the neighborhood roads to move around the golf course instead of the cart paths. With as many spectators as we have, extra cart traffic on the paths can be an issue and a distraction for players.

Easy steps to get up and down from Greenside Bunkers

Hitting the ball out of the sand requires technique that is unlike any other shot in the game. Combine that with different kinds of sand, and you have a recipe for a difficult up and down.

Here are some steps and things to consider for success out of the sand:

  • Club Selection: Typically, you want a wedge 56 degrees or higher with the correct bounce so it can glide through the sand underneath the ball.
  • Evaluate the Sand: Check the type of lie you have. Is the sand packed or wet? Drier or finer?
  • Set the clubface: If the sand is packed or wet you want a more square clubface. If it is fine sand, make the face more open.
  • Adjust Set-up: A wider stance is best in the sand for better balance. You should also dig your feet into the sand so you’re set. Play the ball a somewhat forward, and aim a bit left. The more open you play the blade the more you need to aim left.
  • Steepen your Swing: You’ll need a steeper angle of attack with a bunker shot so hinge your wrists aggressively. On the downswing, aim for a spot an inch or two behind the ball in the sand. Try to hit that spot and let the club glide underneath the ball through the sand. Remember the most important part...follow through.
