Friendly Reminder:

Promoting Safe Driving in Sun City Texas

As our community continues to grow, this concern becomes even more critical. With a commitment to safety, we urge all Sun City residents to adhere to traffic laws and prioritize safe driving practices.

Driving within Sun City Texas offers advantages that contribute to safety:

  • Lower Traffic Volume and Speed Limits: Unlike larger roads outside Sun City, our streets typically have lower traffic volume and reduced speed limits. This environment fosters safer driving conditions.
  • Law-Abiding Majority: Most drivers in Sun City conscientiously obey traffic laws, creating a safer overall driving experience.
  • Crosswalks: for safe pedestrian crossing
  • Crosswalk Etiquette: When approaching crosswalks, always yield to pedestrians. Wait patiently for them to safely cross the road before proceeding.
  • Remember, prioritizing pedestrian safety benefits everyone in our community!

Unique Challenges: Sun City’s unique mix of vehicles, including golf carts and bicycles, necessitates extra caution.

Golf carts are an integral part of our community. When operating a golf cart on public streets:

  • Ensure your golf cart has an orange slow-moving vehicle triangle on the back.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license to operate the golf cart legally.
  • Obey traffic laws just as you would in any other vehicle.
  • Remember that golf carts offer less protection than cars, so drive defensively and be mindful of pedestrians and other vehicles.

Many residents ride bicycles in Sun City. When driving, especially around cyclists:

  • Exercise extra caution and maintain a safe distance.
  • Yield to cyclists at intersections.
  • Be patient and allow cyclists to navigate safely.

Children and Golf Carts:

  • Children should not drive golf carts unless they hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Safety is paramount, and young drivers lack the experience needed to operate golf carts responsibly.

Resource Guide and Directory:

  • Refer to Page 23 of the 2023-2024 Resource Guide and Directory for comprehensive information on Texas Golf Cart laws. Familiarize yourself with the rules to ensure compliance.

Community Association’s Role

  • Residents often inquire about the Community Association’s (CA) role in enforcing traffic laws. While the CA does not actively enforce these laws, we encourage self-regulation and responsible behavior.

Remember, safe driving benefits us all. Let’s keep our streets secure and enjoyable for everyone!
