Golf Communicator

January 26, 2023

It is with great regret that we must inform you of the loss of our great friend and teammate, Doug Wills. Doug began working with us here in Sun City Texas in May of 2008. He was nothing but an excellent member of our team and set a great example for all of us with his work ethic and attention to detail. Doug always expressed the importance of family and we feel honored to have considered him a part of ours. Please keep Doug and his family in your thoughts.

New Golfer Day and Golf 101

Spring is around the corner and with it comes our first Golf 101 classes. The Golf 101 class is designed for individuals and couples who are beginner golfers, golfers with limited golf experience, or golfers who have experienced a significant layoff. This class offers golfers instruction on all aspects of the golf swing as well as rules and etiquette tips, and general information regarding playing and practicing in Sun City.

If this class sounds like something that interests you, or if you could use some complimentary golf tips, we encourage you to attend the New Golfer Day scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17, 2-3:30 p.m. at White Wing Golf Club. This will give interested residents a taste of what they can expect from the Golf 101 class - experience a short game, putting and full swing instructional demonstration! This will be the first opportunity to register for classes that will be offered in early March 2023.

If you have any questions or are interested in signing up for this New Golfer Day, please contact the White Wing Golf Shop. If you have any questions regarding the New Golfer Day and/or Golf 101, please contact the golf professional staff. Please look for more detailed information on exact class days and times in the coming weeks.

Frost Delays

It’s that time of year again when morning temps can create a frost delay. We will continue the procedure we followed last year of maintaining the delay. Players can always call in and take advantage of a tee time that has been cancelled.

Bridges in the Winter Months

Please remember that bridges freeze before the rest of the roads do in freezing weather. The bridges can get slick in the winter months as the temperature can be 36 degrees and still create frost. When driving your golf carts over the bridges, please take it slow and careful.

Posting scores to GHIN

The minimum number of holes to be completed for a 9-hole score to be posted is 7 holes. The minimum number of holes to be completed for an 18-hole score to be posted is 14 holes. If these minimums are met then players can use, “par plus handicap strokes,” to add holes not played to get a permittable score.

Example: A 9-hole player starts on hole 11 and finishes on hole 1 in a shotgun start. A score of, “par plus any handicap strokes,” can be used for hole 10 to gain a permittable score.

Please note the 7 holes to be completed must be on the same front or back 9 holes, i.e., if a 9-hole player starts on hole 15 and ends up on hole 4, that is not a permittable score since fewer than 7 holes were completed on either 9 holes.

For more clarification, please contact one of the Golf Professional Staff.
