Getting to Know our Fitness Team

Kathy Carver, Group Fitness Coordinator

 

I have been a fitness instructor and ACE personal trainer for over 32 years. I studied exercise science at Georgia State University. I was lucky to be included as a training assistant and taught classes to athletes and support staff during the 1996 summer Olympic games in Atlanta. 

 

I studied yoga and yoga philosophy at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona and achieved a 300-hour yoga alliance program. I continue to study with master instructors like Rod Stryker and take workshops through yoga alliance. I have been a yoga teacher since 2007. 

 

I have worked with specialty populations and post rehab personal training. Also, senior fitness with Silver Sneakers certifications in silver splash, classic and circuit. I was the Fitness Supervisor for the Forbes five-star resort fitness and spa for the Sea Island Company, Sea Island GA. Recently, I was the recreation specialist fitness programing for the Georgetown recreation center. 

 

My passion is sharing and teaching fitness and continuing to educate myself, always learning. I teach yoga, cardio, strength, cycle, water, boot camp, TRX training, Titleist golf fitness, balance & stretch, and core & stability classes.

Weekend Pool After Hours

 

Weekend Pool After Hours

Outdoor Pools/spas are open until

8:30 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays

 

  • During the after hours you must enter through the side gates at Texas Drive, Cowan Creek and The Retreat when the fitness centers close at 5:30 p.m. All personal items must be removed from the locker rooms by 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • The outside bathrooms will be open at Texas Drive and at The Retreat.
  • You will enter the Cowan Creek bathrooms from the outside of the locker-room doors only. Inside doors will be locked.
  • A fitness monitor will be checking on the three pools throughout the evening and back to lockup at 8:30 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation. Have fun and please be safe!

Science continues to show that the best cardiovascular activity to strengthen our heart AND sharpen our brain is dancing. We know that any type of physical activity is good for our health, but dance is the only physical activity shown to lower our risk of dementia, improve memory and boost our problem-solving ability.

 

Dance synchronizes music and movement. Music stimulates our brain’s reward centers, while dance activates it’s sensory and motor circuits. Even a short dance session can significantly improve our mood, and brain function, as well as improve our balance and gait. In fact, dance is so beneficial that it is being used as therapy for people with Parkinson’s and other progressive neurological disorders.

 

At the Texas Drive and Cowan Creek fitness centers we offer several classes which combine music and choreography to stimulate your brain and improve your cardiovascular health. Try our Cardio Dance and Zumba classes for a fun new workout. If you want to take your dancing outside the gym, Sun City clubs offer country dancing, line dancing, square dancing, ballroom dancing etc. Try them all and find your favorite way to stay brain healthy.
