UIL State Championship in Sun City Texas - Spectators encouraged!

For the past several years Sun City has been honored to host the top Texas high school golfers for their year-end championships. This tournament in the past has hosted many players who went on to be successful professional golfers such as Charles Coody, Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw, Justin Leonard and Jordan Spieth. There is always a chance that spectators may witness a little bit of golf history! There will be four tournaments over four days at two of our golf courses. Spectators are encouraged, and volunteers are needed.

Resident golfers and rental carts

If you’re playing at the Cowan Creek golf course May 7 - 17, there will be limited golf carts available. If you’re in need of a rental cart during this period, please contact the golf shop to make sure one is available or make arrangements to ride with a playing partner. You can contact the Cowan Creek golf course at 512-948-7580.

Spectators

We ask that residents utilize community streets to get around to different parts of the golf course and avoid driving the actual course as much as possible. There will be many family members of the players that are required to walk the course during play, so if residents can stay off the course as much as possible that will minimize golf course traffic during the tournament. If you do access the cart path on the golf course, please keep your golf carts on the cart path. Play starts at 8 a.m.

Parking

There will be parking for coaches, players, rules officials and handicapped at the pro shops. All other parking will go to the “B” and “C” lots that will be identified with signage. Staff and volunteers will be directing traffic to the parking areas available for UIL Tournament guests and parents. Driving golf carts for shared parking lot spaces is highly encouraged.

Photo shoot to take place in late May, exact date is to be determined.

If you are interested, please contact Jaime Calder at [email protected]

Adopt-A-Hole Program

Our Adopt-A-Hole program is an important part of golf in Sun City Texas. Adopt-A-Hole is an all-volunteer program that helps keep our golf courses in good shape and also saves money by helping keep maintenance issues to a minimum. Volunteers fill divots, repair ball marks on greens, clean up loose tees, repair or move restraining ropes as needed where excessive cart wear to grass is apparent, notify Maintenance of any exceptional issues that need to be addressed, etc.

Legacy Hills Hole #7 is looking for a Captain. The Captain assumes responsibility for directing the team and serves as the point of contact for his or her team as part of overall Adopt-A-Hole program coordination. There are a group of volunteers who are currently working the hole but are in need of someone to assume the role of Captain.

If you're interested in becoming the Captain for Legacy Hills Hole #7, please contact Cindy Brien, Adopt-A-Hole Program Coordinator, at [email protected]

2022 Golf Rate Schedule

Posting scores to GHIN

The minimum number of holes to be completed for a 9-hole score to be posted is 7 holes. The minimum number of holes to be completed for an 18-hole score to be posted is 14 holes. If these minimums are met then players can use, “par plus handicap strokes,” to add holes not played to get a permittable score.

Example: A 9-hole player starts on hole 11 and finishes on hole 1 in a shotgun start. A score of, “par plus any handicap strokes,” can be used for hole 10 to gain a permittable score.

Please note the 7 holes to be completed must be on the same front or back 9 holes, i.e., if a 9-hole player starts on hole 15 and ends up on hole 4, that is not a permittable score since fewer than 7 holes were completed on either 9 holes.

For more clarification, please contact one of the Golf Professional Staff.
