Lately, some of our female residents have asked me about how to get rid of the dreaded “pooch,” the pocket of fat that we accumulate around our lower abs. Despite how hard these ladies work (me included) at keeping in shape, the pooch is there to remind us that we are not in our 20's anymore. This can drive us crazy, right ladies?
What if we didn’t worry about it anymore? I know, it’s a radical concept. But let’s break down the truth about the pooch.
+ A pooch does NOT mean we aren’t in shape.
+ A pooch does NOT imply that we have failed.
+ A pooch is NOT as unattractive as we think it is.
+ As we reach our better ages, most of us will develop a pooch.
+ We don’t have to have a perfectly flat stomach to wear a bathing suit.
This is not to say that we shouldn’t work on trimming belly fat through diet and exercise. Too much fat around the midsection can lead to issue such as metabolic syndrome and back pain. However, a pooch is different than a pool of body fat. Sure, it’s there, and it is fat; but if we stop worrying so much about getting rid of it and just focus on our health, we might feel better just by changing our mindset!
