Better Hydration
Submitted by Mike Stuchl, Personal Trainer
This Better Aging blog reviews the vitally important health practice of hydration. Research has shown that healthy literacy regarding hydration is lacking among the senior demographic.

The average adult requires more daily amounts of water as they grow older. The body's ability to conserve water diminishes as we age and the loss of muscle mass also results in loss of bodily water retention.

Now that summer is in full swing, be sure to stay ahead of your hydration needs! This is a great article to brush up on your personal hydration practices. Read on to see the list of dehydration symptoms and the best ways to keep your fluids up anytime of year.

Getting to Know the Fantastic Fitness Staff
Pam Yager, Fitness Monitor

"I am from Central New York, I lived there my whole life up until I made the move here to Sun City Texas two years ago. I hold a third-degree black belt in Karate. My husband earned his ninth-degree black belt, all though, he is truly a tenth-degree black belt (he remains modest about this accomplishment). We both love to play pool. I worked as an adult nurse practitioner in my professional life, specializing in hematology/oncology. I now work as a RN for Texas Oncology on an as-needed basis."

TIPS FROM THE TRAINERS
Trainers always harp on proper form. This is with good reason of course. Proper form keeps us safe. One part that can get overlooked if not observed by a professional eye, however, is the wrists. No body part is less important than the another, no matter how small, or how insignificant it might seem to the exercise.

For example, when doing a bicep curl, are the wrists strong or are they bending under the weight? When doing a side lateral shoulder raise, are the wrists neutral or are they bending downward? Is there a reason the wrist is bending in the first place? Remember, form is always head to toe.
From the current personal training staff: John Rutan, Allison Worley, Michelle Dwyer, Brendi Middleton, Mike Stuchl, Byron Goff, Michelle Rakow and Judy Baier.
