AJ (monitor)-I am thankful for living fully to the awareness of the blessings of life and health that each day has given me. Life offered me an incredible partner, children, friends and career. I relish the remarkable human spirit I have truly been granted and the gift of understanding the need to improve myself through mental learning, physical strength and spiritual growth until the day I am no longer able. That brings me joy, peace and thankfulness just in thinking about it!

Melanie (monitor)-I am thankful that God is in charge of our world and I can trust Him to handle things. That knowledge gives me peace.
Doug (monitor)-I am thankful to have coworkers persistent enough to require me to contemplate my thankfulness. Especially my boss, Michelle.

Molly (monitor)-I am thankful for the beauty I wake up to every day.

Bob (monitor)-I am thankful that my granddaughter is out of the hospital and recovering at home.  I am also thankful that Mary and I chose to live in such an awesome place. And to my very patient boss, Michelle.

Mark (monitor)-I am thankful for having good health, a great wife, and two great boys. I’m also grateful to be living in such a nice community and having a nice little job here as a fitness monitor.

Michelle (director)–I am thankful for all who contributed to this article. My staff of managers, monitors, instructors and trainers. Working in such a busy environment like the fitness department, we have our daily challenges but now there is a pandemic to add to our challenges. This fitness team has accepted everything thrown their way over the last nine months. We have closed, reopened, closed again and reopened again. The fitness staff is not only asked to fulfill their direct responsibilities of their jobs but to go above and beyond to make sure everyone stays safe and it’s not always an easy or pleasant task. I am very proud and honored to be the director of a wonderful group of people who have stepped up to all the new challenges with a smile and a sense of humor. The second amazing group I am thankful for is our housekeepers. They have stepped up to all new challenges, new schedules, new task, and are the most hardworking people I know here in Sun City. They keep us safe and clean! Lastly, I am of course very thankful for my wonderful family at home, my husband and two teenage daughters who have to put up with me after a very long day at work in Sun City!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our fitness family and friends!

TIPS FROM THE TRAINERS

Well, it’s that time again. The holidays are here! (Soon, anyway). Before we get hit with an onslaught of yummy stuff, let’s look at tips to prepare now to help keep us in control (We hope).

The following are a couple of tips we all know, but may not necessarily love. They are tried and true and, backed up by Harvard Medical School. Ten suggestions are listed in the full article provided below, but we will focus here on two that seem easier to implement.

Walk. Aim for 10,000 steps a day. Yes, we know this is a lot. But even if you finish the day at 6,000, and this is more than you normally do, then you are already winning.

Drink water. We all know the benefits of hydration. Many experts say water provides a tremendous boost to our metabolism. Of course, we aim for eight cups a day. But again, if you drink four and it’s more than your usual amount, then…that's a win!

There are other tips too that take a little more effort such as reading labels, cutting back on alcohol, etc. But little changes make big differences. Read through the suggestions and prepare in advance!
