Political Sign Recycling

Tuesday, Nov.3, is Election Day 2020.  Hope the candidate of your choice was successful and the political sign you placed in your yard is what carried them over the top. Question is "what do you do with the yard signs now that the elections are over?" The successful candidates would like to get their signs back to use in future elections. Candidates who came in a close second hate to see their signs end up in the landfill. So the answer is - recycle!

Please recycle your political signs at the collection truck or trailer placed in the Legacy Hills Park Pavilion and the Cowan Creek Amenity Center parking lots. Collection vehicles will be available Wednesday to Sunday, Nov. 4 - 8. Signs will be returned to respective officeholders and/or candidates who request them for future use. Signs not claimed will be recycled.

Reminder: Election signs in your yard must be removed no later than 10 days after the election to which the sign refers.
Friendly Reminders
Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director

Here are a few reminders for when you are out and about in the community to keep yourself and others safe. I hope this helps! Jim
 Quick Tips around Dogs

Even the nicest, best-trained family dog may snap if it's startled, scared or feels threatened. Here are some tips to be aware of when meeting a new furry friend!

  • Ask permission to pet dog.
  • Let dog see and sniff before petting it.
  • Do not run toward or away from dog.
  • If an unfamiliar dog approaches, avoid eye contact.
  • If a dog tries to bite you, put anything you can between you and the dog.
  • Stay calm, stand still, then back up slowly to get away.
 Out and About
in the Community

1.      Always be on the lookout for others whether you are walking, driving a car or golf cart or riding a bike. Be aware of your surroundings.
2.    If a sidewalk is available, you must use it. If you must walk in the street, walk against traffic so you see what is coming your way.
3.     When walking a dog (or cat), please make sure to control your pet and leash, especially if you are using a retractable leash.
4.     Wear bright colors and if dark, have a flashlight.
5.     When on a bike and approaching someone walking in the street from behind, try to let them know you are coming. Consider a bike bell.
6.     Know the laws of the road and be safe. Remember, you are not the only one out there.
Contractor Guidelines
Submitted by Carl Zimmerman, Community Standards Director [email protected]

The community’s Governing Documents consider contractors to be the guests or invitees of the home owner for whom they are working. As such, home owners are responsible for the conduct of their contractor and the contractor’s employees. Contractors are only allowed to display a sign advertising for their company when they are on site and working on a project. Contractors are prohibited from storing building materials on the street or on CA-owned common areas. Home owners will be held responsible for damage to CA-owned common areas. Contractors are prohibited from dumping materials into storm drains or in CA-owned common areas or in CA-owned dumpsters. Home owners are encouraged to request that their contractor provide a port-a-potty for the use of contractor employees or to require that the workers use the public bathrooms at many outdoor CA facilities such as the tennis courts, Legacy Hills Pavilion, Cowan Creek Pavilion, Dog Park and many other CA outdoor facilities. Home owners are requested to limit the operating hours on their project to allow their neighbors the peaceful enjoyment of property free from nuisances.

Please contact Carl Zimmerman at 512-948-7461 with your questions.
Native Area Maintenance Schedule
Autumn weather has been cooperating with our efforts, and we’re making good progress. Although the majority of this process can be handled by our mowers, there are some areas that are less accommodating and will need to be handled with line trimmers. The Line Trimmers can be up to two weeks behind the Mowers. All cuttings will be left where they fall. This is a Firewise exercise only, and not for aesthetic, or any other purpose.
