Friendly Reminder -
Respect your neighbor’s political signs
Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director

We are in the thick of the political season with the presidential election less than 50 days away. It is evident everywhere you go and everything you see on television. Specifically, my plea today is to please respect your neighbor’s lawful right to display their political signs in accordance with State law and CA policy. Residents have had signs stolen, destroyed and defaced. While we may not agree with the Red team or the Blue team, lets respect our neighbor’s rights to peacefully display their candidates of choice.
Thank you in advance, Jim
What’s in a Number?
Submitted by CA Resident Board Members

In Sun City Texas, neighborhoods are identified by a number. The community map displays each neighborhood using a number, and we often refer to our neighborhoods by their number. So why don’t we list the neighborhood numbers on monument signs?

That was a question posed to the CA Board earlier this summer when several neighborhoods developed and installed their neighborhood number signs. This action revealed that displaying the neighborhood number was important to them but doing so was not consistent with the community design standards.
To determine how neighborhoods felt about displaying neighborhood numbers, the NRO surveyed the NReps. The final result showed 85 percent of the neighbors with standard monument signs were in favor of adding numbers to their signs and 70 percent of the neighborhoods without monument signs would like the idea adding number only signs to their entrances.
At the August CA Board Meeting, it was announced that the Board had discussed this issue and was in favor of adding the numbers to our existing neighborhood monument signs. The staff is moving forward with this project and hopes to have it complete by the end of the year. Pulte also supported this action and will begin adding numbers to the monument signs for all future neighborhoods.

Unfortunately, this action does not include those neighborhoods without monument signs or neighborhoods with non-standard monument signs. The CA needs to determine the design, the placement of these signs, and who would fund the development and installation of number-only signs. The CA Board will seek input from Property and Grounds and Modifications Committees before making any final decision on this phase of this program.
Enjoying the Outdoors Safely

If beating the heat leaves you walking or cycling at dawn or dusk, here are some tips to do so safely.

Cyclists:
  1. Wear a helmet and use a front (white)/rear (red) flashing light.
  2. Wear neon, fluorescent or other bright clothing.
  3. Whenever possible, ride during the day.
  4. If you must ride at night, wear reflective clothing and use flashing lights.

Follow the rules of the road:
  • Get acquainted with traffic laws; bicyclists must follow the same rules as motorists.
  • Ride in the direction of traffic with two-abreast or single-file to avoid impeding traffic.
  • Remain alert, keep your head up and look around; watch for opening car doors and other hazards.
  • Use hand signals when turning or going straight and use extra care at intersections.
  • Never hitch onto cars or golf carts.
  • Before entering traffic, stop and look left, right, left again and over your shoulder.
Walkers:
  1. Wear reflective or bright clothing.
  2. Light your way with a small flashlight or headlamp.
  3. Be aware of your surroundings.
  4. Avoid distracted walking.

Reminder: No walking in the road if a sidewalk is accessible.
Know night walking safety rules:
  • Walk facing traffic so you can see and react to vehicles.
  • Use extra caution when crossing streets. Drivers do not expect pedestrians to be out walking at night.
  • Safety in numbers: Use the same routes used by other walkers and runners.
  • Beware of tripping hazards. It is harder to see uneven sidewalks, roots, rocks, potholes and trash when it's dark. Walk with your eyes, noting the ground 15 feet ahead to see upcoming hazards.
  • Don't be blinded by the light. Headlights can make it difficult for you to see for a while. Choose paths without frequent changes in lighting levels.

Please Don't
Feed the Wildlife

Deer corn is unhealthy for deer. It can cause digestive problems and malnutrition because the deer might feel full but they are not getting proper nutrients.

Additionally, feeding deer destroys local habitat by attracting more deer to an area than it can naturally support and, quite frankly, deer are designed to live without our help, as are all wild animals.
