Flying the Stars and Stripes
By Chuck Graham

The purpose of this article is to provide information concerning the protocol related to flying the United States flag.

The U. S. Congress has specified the rules pertaining to display and care of the United States flag in U.S. Codes Title 4 and 36. These rules, commonly referred as "The Flag Code", are basically:
  • Always fly the U.S. flag with respect and in the place of honor. The U.S. flag is never dipped in honor of anyone or anything. No other flag is displayed above the U.S. flag in accordance with international protocol.
  • When displayed with other flags, the U.S. flag is either on the right in a line of flags, in the center if in front of a line of flags, or in a position above other flags.
  • When displayed in a hall or auditorium, the U.S. flag is to the right of the podium.
  • The flag is displayed only during daylight unless properly lighted, and is not displayed in inclement weather unless designed for weather.
  • Never allow the flag to touch the ground.

Fitness Centers Open Monday, Sept. 14
All three gyms will be opening on Monday, September 14. Reservations began Tuesday, September 8 at midnight. You may now register for five days a week to access the gym. Households can now register two people at the same time! Please review our new rules for the gyms and pools in the links below. If you would like to access the Cowan Creek track please make a gym reservation at Cowan Creek.

It is essential for staff and housekeeping to use the transition time to clean and prepare the facility for the next reservation group. Please help us in this effort by arriving no earlier than five minutes before your scheduled time.

Resident badges are required when you check in with the fitness monitor beginning on Monday, September 14. Each resident is responsible for showing their own resident badge so that the monitor can identify both parties registered under the resident number. This also helps the monitor locate the correct name on the correct roster in front of them. As hard as we try we can’t always hear you clearly under your mask but thank you for wearing it for everyone’s safety!

Please be kind to your fitness staff. They are doing the best they can with all these reservations and transition times. Not following the rules or disrespecting the staff will get you temporarily suspended from the gyms, pools and spas.

We look forward to seeing everyone safely return to the gym.

Effective Friday, September 11, face shields are not allowed instead of face masks. Face masks are required inside of all Sun City Texas Community Association buildings until further notice.

Political Sign Rules
Submitted by Carl Zimmerman
Community Standards Director

The community’s Political Sign Policy allows residents to display political signs related to an upcoming election from 90 days prior to the election until 10 days after the election. Political signs must be in support of a specific candidate or ballot initiative. Signs may not be in support of a party or express a negative sentiment, and they must be directly related to candidates on the ballot or ballot initiatives. Signs may be repurposed from their original message, however, the sign must be significantly changed from itss original purpose to be considered in compliance with the policy. Residents will be asked to remove signs that don’t meet this standard. All signs related to the November 3 election must be removed no later than Saturday, November 14. Residents are limited to no more than one sign for each candidate for an office or for each measure on the ballot. A recent change to the community’s policy allows that if there is a difference of opinion between members of the household on which candidates are supported additional signs may be displayed. Each household member’s choice of candidates must be displayed in separate places on the lot. Signs may not be larger than 4-feet by 6-feet or 24-square feet.

Please contact Carl Zimmerman at 512-948-7461 with your questions.
Friendly Reminders - Dogs
Submitted by Jim Romine
Executive Director

I regularly get calls from residents asking me to share a few good reminders when managing your dogs out and about in the community.

1.      When using a retractable leash, please make sure to still have good control of your dog and do not let it control you and the leash.
2.      Please try to refrain from allowing your dog to relieve themselves on or around our benches throughout the community. People sit at these locations and we want them to be nice for all.
3.      Manage your dog. I had a report of a dog attacking a runner when the owner was unable to keep their dog on their leash and collar.
4.      DO NOT CONGREGATE in groups. During this pandemic we need to maintain social distancing and safe practices.
5.      Please do not bring your dogs into the restrooms. We have had instances where the dog has relieved themselves in there as well…
6.      Scoop the poop! Need I say more?

Thanks to you and Fido for your help in keeping our community safe and clean.
Mask Courtesy

It is important to stay distanced while being active: if you are out walking the trails and sidewalks please carry a mask for the times when you are not able to keep six feet of physical distance between you and people that are not in your household.

We encourage you to wear a mask while passing on the sidewalk or trail and so people don’t have to wander off into the bushes or in the road. After you are six feet away then remove your mask and continue on your way. Masks are especially important when it is difficult to stay at least six feet apart from others.
