Discover everything you would expect from Texas – rugged landscapes, oil derricks, diverse heritage, and that proud-to-be-a-Texan spirit.  Known as the Gateway to Texas, The Texas Forest Trail holds stories of the Caddo Indians, Spanish and French explorers, Anglo Pioneers, and European immigrants that built this great state from a wild frontier.

Wednesday –We begin with a look at the Forest Trail timeline preparing us for our first stop at Navarro College.  Tour the Pearce Civil War Museum & Western Art Collection along with The Hunters and Gatherers Gallery.  A picnic lunch and stories along the trail will take us to Roseland Plantation.  A pre-Civil War beauty, the owners of this historical home will host us for afternoon tea and a private tour.   Check-in at the Hampton Inn and dinner on your own will complete our day. [Muffin with juice, picnic lunch, tea and pastries included.]

Thursday – Enjoy the world famous Tyler Rose Garden and Museum, where beautiful gardens and elaborate costumes tell the story of the Texas Rose Festival. Choose your next stop when you purchase your ticket: the Goodman-Leland House, a delight for antique lovers and historians OR the American Freedom Museum, a look at our fight for freedom from the revolutionary war to current conflicts.   Following lunch on your own, we will visit The East Texas Oil Museum and The World's Richest Acre for an amazing look at the excitement and harsh realities of the 1930s Texas oil discoveries.   A (possible) show at Kilgore College and a delicious dinner at Bodacious BBQ will finish our day.   [Breakfast & dinner included.]

Friday – Head deeper into the Piney Woods to Nacogdoches, the oldest town in Texas, and Caddo Mounds State Historic Site.  Tour the Stone Fort Museum, a history of the founding of Nacogdoches, creating a basis for some self-guided browsing about town.  After lunch on your own, a drive along the El Camino Real De Los Tejas into the Crockett Forest will take us to the historical site of the Caddo Indians, provide a photo opp at one of the first Spanish Missions in Texas, and finish up our Texas Forest Trail adventure.  [Breakfast & snack pack included.]
