Tour behind the scenes at The Real Goodwill.  Founded in 1902 in Boston by Rev. Edgar J Helms, a Methodist minister and early social innovator, Helms collected used household goods and clothing in the wealthier areas of the city; then he trained and hired the poor in need of work to mend and repair the used goods.  The refurbished goods were then resold or given to the people who had repaired them.  The system worked, and the Goodwill philosophy of ‘a hand up, not a hand out’ was born.

Largely perceived today as only a thrift store, our tour takes an exclusive look at everything from operations to mission as we hear from members of the Leadership Team and meet Central Texans that have been empowered through our donations. Our day begins at The Goodwill Community Center where we will learn about education, job training and the core mission of generating lifelong connections to work.  Lunch on your own follows at the Tech Ridge Center with a choice of restaurants - Pei Wei, Chili's, Souper Salad, or Carino's Italian.  Our final tour will take us through The Goodwill Resource Center where donations are sorted, recycled and resold.  This amazing and inspiring system will leave you saying, "I had no idea that Goodwill did that!"

Ticket cost includes transportation and tours.
