Medical Emergency Tag

In keeping with one of the Hiking Club’s long-standing safety goals – ensuring that hikers receive medical treatment as expeditiously as possible in the event of an emergency on the trail – the Club initiated a new safety program in March of 2011. Although participation is voluntary, the Club strongly recommends that everyone take part in this important effort.

Each member has been issued a bright orange logo Medical Emergency Tag for storing the Emergency Information Form furnished by the Hiking Club. That form enables a member to record specific medical details which could prove invaluable to him/her (and to any hiking companions) should a medical emergency arise on the trail. Some members have opted to also include a photocopy of their insurance card and to list any allergies from which they suffer, as well as the name and contact number of their primary care physician.

The emergency Information sheet is designed to be folded for privacy and placed between the front and back covers of the Medical Emergency Tag. Members are urged to keep the Medical Emergency Tag with them when hiking – attached to a backpack or belt pack, for example – and are welcome to request an additional tag if needed.

Hike leaders will always have extra Medical Emergency Tags available. Copies of the Emergency Information form may also be downloaded using the link below.
