Closed Point of Dispensing
Sun City Texas previously worked with the Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD) in an attempt to establish SCT as a “Closed Point of Dispensing” or closed POD. Due to many reasons, we never were able to finalize an agreement (Memo of Understanding or MOU). A POD is a term used to describe a way to dispense drugs to a large group of people (mostly antibiotics) in the event of a terroristic attack or something similar that causes a widespread health issue in our area. Anthrax is an example given to us. If we were a Closed POD, it would allow us to work directly with the WCCHD to receive the proper drugs (pill form) to dispense to our community rather than our residents having to go out into the city or county to receive such medications at an “open” POD. The MOU is currently being reviewed by the CA’s attorney. Once review is complete, staff will coordinate with the Board of Directors on approval and support of the Closed POD. Following approval, staff will work with the WCCHD and volunteers to determine how to facilitate the operation, safety, storage, etc.
