Water Monitor Sighting

img

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office has reported that a five-foot long water monitor (lizard) walked off of one of the properties near the Cowan Creek golf course. They believe it is near one of the water sources near holes 13, 14 or 15 of the Cowan Creek golf course. They were out this afternoon near those holes on ATVs searching for it and did not find it.

They will be setting a trap near one of the water sources to try and catch the lizard. This is most likely a lost pet as this species is not native to this area. However, it is important that if you see the animal to stay away from it and call the Sheriff's office immediately either through 911 or at 512-864-8282, then select option 1, then select option 1 again.  If you live near the specified holes, do not leave any pets or children unattended as this is a large and dangerous animal. Due to the trap being set with chicken livers, the trap may bring in other animals such as coyotes. The Sheriff's office will keep us updated.
