Preparing for Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey is expected to make landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast this evening or tomorrow morning, bringing with it heavy rains for the next few days. In the event of flooding or the loss of electricity for an extended period of time over the weekend, the Community Association and the Emergency Management Committee will activate and open the Social Center as an evacuation center. If this activation occurs, we will send out a Special Communicator informing residents of the plan. We will expand to include additional evacuation centers if needed.

The City of Georgetown encourages residents to register mobile and landline phones to receive emergency alerts from the City or Williamson County at WarnCentralTexas.org, which is a region-wide emergency alert system. By registering a phone and location you will receive emergency alerts about dangerous flooding, threatening tornadoes or high winds, or other life-threatening emergencies.

Remember, if you see water across a roadway, please turn around, don't drown. Just six (6) inches of water on the roadway is enough to cause you to lose control of your vehicle.

Planning ahead:

  1. Make transportation plans before the need arises. i.e. if you cannot drive, who will help you evacuate?
  2. Pack a Grab n’ Go bag (Click here for a suggested list for YOU or a PET).
  3. In preparation for strong winds, pick up and secure loose items in your yard such as lawn furniture.
  4. Staff will monitor cart paths over the weekend. If water rises up near the cart path, the paths will be closed.

If you need to evacuate:

  1. Check with neighbors who may need help.
  2. Grab your Grab n’ Go Bag.
  3. Wear sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing.
  4. Secure your home.
