Water Matters: Spring Forward

Submitted by Carlton Mathis, Common Area & Irrigation Superintendent, [email protected]

imgThe times are changing this weekend. Don’t forget to adjust your controller clock, as well as your other household time pieces. With unseasonable temperatures, and some semi-regular rain, we are still in a pretty good spot for leaving our irrigation systems off. Water continues to evaporate from the soil at an average of just under 1/10th of an inch per day. During the summer months, our systems need to apply about one inch of water per week. With that in mind, controllers should be set to no more than a 50% water budget. As long as the rain cycle is persistent, I would recommend a 0-25% water budget.

The Water Matters Team is available to help familiarize you with your irrigation system. If you need help setting up your controller, or would like a complete and thorough evaluation of your irrigation system, send an email to [email protected], or contact your Neighborhood Representative. A Water Matters Ambassador will come to your home to assist you.
