Coyotes In Sun City

Submitted by Jim Romine, Executive Director, [email protected]

imgWhile we have always had coyotes in and around our community, we have recently had sightings of one bold enough to be traveling around homes in the middle of the day. Please keep this in mind when you are out and about with your pets and be sure to keep them on a leash. Coyotes are by nature fearful of humans, however they readily lose their fear of humans when people intentionally (or unintentionally) provide food/water or shelter for them, or otherwise do not try to deter them from visiting. Eliminating sources that attract coyotes can go a long way in addressing the situation.

Please Click Here to read an article we previously published on coyotes. This article provides good information about them and how we live in harmony with them.

Scams, Fraud & Con Games

imgIt's not always easy to spot a scam, but staying informed and vigilant can keep you from falling victim to these traps. Fraud comes in all forms, through the mail, phone, internet and in person. It is important to stay informed and aware of the scams taking place in our area and around the country. In response to some of the more common scams, you should not have to pay money to collect prize winnings; be suspicious of calls from a grandchild in jail; and the IRS, local authorities and utility companies will not call you and demand payment over the phone by credit card, bank account transfer or gift card.

Please click below to read the information provided by the Georgetown Police Department including how to spot a con artist and how to report fraud. There is also a link on the Resident Home Page. Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Yellow Bag Contest – Win a $50 Visa Card!

The yellow recycle bags collected in Sun City are being under filled which makes it difficult for the recycling staff to pull the bags from the sorting line. Under-filling the bags also increases the cost of the program as residents pick up more bags than needed. So that we may continue to receive these bags free of charge, please do not automatically put your yellow bag in your recycle container every two weeks; only deposit the bag in your container when it is completely full.

imgChance to win $50!
Have you ever wondered HOW MANY plastic grocery bags will fit in your yellow bag? Visit the Social Center Monitors desk and submit your guess of how many bags are included in OUR full yellow bag pictured below for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card! Submissions accepted through January 31.

New Design Guideline Changes: “Compost Bins”

Submitted by Ginny Wagner, Community Standards Supervisor, [email protected]

imgAs of November 17, 2016, upon approval by the Modifications Committee via B-1 application, one rigid plastic compost bin, no greater than 60 gallons, in black, terra cotta, or a color that matches the primary color of the house, may be located on a concrete pad at the rear of the residence. This bin must be located within 5 feet of the rear plane of the home and 20 feet from both side property lines.

The vessel must be screened from view as shown in figure 4-1 on page 42 of the Design Guidelines using either a 4’ tall at planting, evergreen bush; or a 4’ lattice or vertical screen. The homeowner is responsible for control of offensive odors and for prevention of the hosting of insect larvae.

To review the guidelines as written and approved by the Board of Directors, see page 67, §6.12. COMPOSTING GUIDELINES in the Design Guidelines 20160117.pdf located on the web site at Community Resources > Documents > Governing Documents.
