LMH Update

Jon and I are inspecting the Cottage neighborhoods for dead and dying plant materials, turf and tree pruning needs, along with drainage issues. The TCB irrigation team is performing the monthly irrigation checks and repairs.

The TCB team is currently at the U.S. Embassy in Monterrey, Mexico, renewing their work visas. They will be back onsite next week to perform their duties. Uriel, the crew chief with the excellent English, is getting married and will return after his honeymoon.

Observations:
We have identified some items that are contributing to plant loss. Ornamental pots, large stones and ornaments have been placed in front of sprinkler heads which are blocking the water supply to plants in the beds. The irrigation team will carefully move these items onto your sidewalk during the inspection. Please find a hard surface for your decorations. This will help keep plants alive and reduce the cost of replacements. We thank you in advance.

Waterwise:
We were also able to identify some water conservation items in the Cottages and are working on shutting off some sprinkler heads, which will reduce gallons and improve the overall pressure.

Challenges:

Some backyards have large native tree canopies which reduce sunlight, so much that even the shade tolerant Zoysia Palisade turf will not thrive. These turf areas will need a different design to eliminate the muddy areas. We will have to address each separately.

Repairs:
Also noted during the walk through are gutter extensions that were damaged during crew visits. These will be repaired by TCB.

Weeds:
The chemical is working on the broad leaf weeds but new dandelions are popping up overnight. We will see even more after the recent one inch rainfall and high temperatures which create the perfect environment for these nuisance plants. The grassy weed chemical available on the market will also stress the existing Bermuda turf, which is not what we want. Annual winter weeds will die out with consistent soil and air temperatures, but with our mild winter they emerged earlier than anticipated. We are tasking TCB to address new weeds next week before continuing the mulch applications.

With the power outage last night, irrigation controllers may have reset themselves from am to pm or vice versa. The team will be double checking and resetting them starting next week.

If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Email is best, so I can maintain electronic folders.

Thank You,
