Changes Coming to Our Restaurant Facility
Submitted by Jim Romine
As we approach the end of 2017, the operators of Putters Café have decided to end their food and beverage operation in Sun City Texas. Darren and Cecy will continue to operate Putters Café during their regular business hours until December 31 and they appreciate your continued support until their departure. New operator Nels Johnson (owner and operator of Wriggley’s) will take over as the operator of the facility in the first quarter of 2018. When more information becomes available regarding opening dates, menus, hours of operation, etc. we will communicate this to the community.
Holiday Heirlooms
Many of us have one holiday item that we cherish above all the rest: a delicate ornament lovingly wrapped in paper, a serving dish reserved only for the grandest of occasions, candlesticks carved by the hands of a loved one or a dog-eared cookbook with writing in the margins. With so many memories wrapped up in these and other objects, Sun Rays wants to know, do you have a special holiday heirloom or keepsake? What is its history? How did it come into your possession? What memories or stories are connected with it?

To be considered for publication in our Dec. issue, send your story (300 words or less, please) to [email protected] by Friday, Oct. 27. Photos are highly encouraged.

Helping Hands - Can you help with storage?
Do you have extra garage space and a few hours a month to help fellow Sun City Texas residents? As a result of the growth in our community, Sun City Helping Hands is in need of another volunteer to store medical equipment and baby items for residents to borrow on a temporary basis. Call Maria Wagner, 512-864-0641 for more information.

If you need to borrow medical items or baby necessities on a temporary loan, see our article in the Support Groups section of the Sun Rays each month.
Common Area & Irrigation Updates
Fall Watering
Fall is typically wetter and cooler and, for established landscapes, it’s a great time to see how far you can stretch those days between watering cycles. Don’t be afraid to shut the system down, and see what happens. If the yard is beginning to look stressed, turn the system back on for a day.
Level 3 Common Area Mowing Update
Next week phase one will have been completely mowed, and phase two will begin in Neighborhood 16.

City/County News
Traffic Signal Changes on Williams Drive
The City is using new traffic signal technology along the Williams Drive corridor to help improve mobility on the roadway. Flashing yellow left-turn arrows are now operating and in the next week, the city will start using new traffic signal devices that will better synchronize signals along the corridor.

The flashing yellow arrow signals are operational along the corridor from I-35 to Jim Hogg Road, with the exception of the Del Webb Boulevard intersection. Flashing yellow arrow signals allow drivers to make left turns while yielding to on-coming traffic and pedestrians.
New Downtown Historic District Street Signs
The City is installing 554 new historic district street signs throughout the Old Town and Downtown historic districts this weekend, Oct. 14-15.

The blue street signs that are being replaced will be sold for $10 each during the Nov. 11 Market Days event on the Square. Signs will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis during the event from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
