CA Special Communicator: Board Election

Resident Board Election

Welcome to the first edition of the CA Special Communicator for the Board Election! You will receive this Special Communicator each Tuesday between now and May 2.

This year there are two qualified candidates running for two vacancies on the Sun City Texas Community Association Board of Directors. Voting will begin on Wednesday, May 3 and conclude at the Annual Meeting on Thursday, May 25. Stay tuned for more information about voting online and by paper ballot in upcoming CA Communicators and your May Sun Rays.

There are two candidates and two open positions, why do we still have an election? State law dictates that any homeowner, qualified or non-qualified, may run for a position on the Board of Directors, which allows for write-in candidates. So while the election may be considered uncontested, we must allow for write-in opportunities as determined by state law. Additionally, per our Bylaws, we must meet a quorum of 10% of the membership in order to facilitate this election.

It has been my honor and special privilege to serve this community as a Resident Director on the Sun City Texas Board of Directors since May 2015. I am again asking for your support to continue my efforts to maintain the wonderful Sun City lifestyle.

After spending many years living overseas, my husband Mike and I became homeowners in 1999 and permanent residents of SCTX in 2006. During the years of expatriate life, I served on many boards of international organizations which helped expats adjust to new cultures, while serving the local communities by fundraising. Because I have experienced these many cultures as a resident, I believe I have an understanding of people and how they function in everyday life. I also have learned that there is more than one way of looking at a problem to find a solution, and sometimes even in different languages.

Here in Sun City I am an active tennis player and occasional golfer. I also enjoy playing bridge, which keeps my brain actively moving. I have been an officer of several chartered clubs including president of Zoomers for 5 years.

My service on the Nominating Committee gave me the opportunity to meet many outstanding residents who applied for our CA advisory committees. My time on this committee and the CA Board has given me a picture of the inner workings of our community. I have a better understanding of how our community functions with the interaction of the advisory committees, residents, the CA Board, chartered clubs, and the Community Association staff.

I also enjoy making a contribution to Georgetown and surrounding communities through membership in The Assistance League Georgetown Area.

This is such a wonderful place to live, and it is my desire to help keep Sun City the outstanding community we all enjoy.

Introduction (part 1 of 4)
My wife Kathy and I moved to Sun City Texas in 2006. We have been married for 46 years and have two great children – a daughter who lives in Houston and a son who lives in Granbury, Texas.

I earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Texas A&M University and had a fulfilling 37 year career in the refining and petrochemical industry.

I have always enjoyed an active lifestyle and my interests in retirement include travel, scuba diving, skiing and golf. I maintain a weekly presence at the Texas Drive fitness center to keep me in shape so I can keep doing what I enjoy.

Since moving to Sun City Texas I have served two full terms on the Property & Grounds advisory committee and since 2009 I have played a continuous and significant role in our Community’s use of water. This work has resulted in continuous cost savings to the residents and the community of over $100,000 per year and has been environmentally responsible.

I have also served on several CA Board task forces, made presentations to most of the advisory committees, prepared several strategic plans for the Board and have assisted the CA staff on many community projects and objectives.

It is a Board member’s role to make decisions on the behalf of the community that maintain and enhance our lifestyle, protect our property values and assure our fiscal security. I am running for the Board position because I believe I have demonstrated the experience, responsible outcomes and working relationships that are needed to make informed decisions that are in the best interests of our community now and in its future.

I would appreciate your vote and support.
